How were you able to find that great E-Tec? supposedly BRP discontinued production in May 2020....

But kudos to you, and not to overly irritate Merc folks :cool: ........but methinks E-Tecs are better......:):)

Like many before me have mentioned, I love my E-Tec. I am running a 250 HP on a 20' Ranger and getting 4.6 mpg @ 38 mph. So I am very happy with the mileage that I get. I know that is a lot better than the Merc guys get, I am uncertain how the Yamaha and Suzuki compare.

You have as much wrapped up in Electronics as my first 3 boats cost combined lol. Be very proud you have a very sweet ride.

I can't imagine why BRP decided to throw in the towel on Evinrude. I know they struggled with the Gen 2's at first but it seems that they managed to work out their problems quickly. Now they've borrowed the E/Tech technology to build a new Rotax Outboard. Why not keep your established Evinrude name and dealer network and design your new Rotax outboard and sell and service it through your established Evinrude dealer network? Now they have no dealers, no network and an unproven motor labeled Rotax even though it's just a disguised Evinrude as far as its injectors go. If you don't want to be in the outboard business then don't, I just don't get it, nope.

I talked to a company representative. He said he believes they had a superior product with weight to power, clean burn, technology, but they couldn't sell enough because people wanted quiet 4 strokes.

When we had the opportunity to repower our past houseboat, we looked at the E/Techs vs the Yamahas and the group had a little bit of trepidation about the possibility of NPS banning 2-strokes sometime in the future. The E/Techs were much less expensive but the boat had been on Yamahas already and everyone felt comfortable continuing down that road even with the massive cost difference.

Maybe the perception was that 4 strokes are quieter but with computer controlled direct injection under high pressure on the upstroke going on they are just as quiet and smokeless as 4 strokes. In 2000 that was a monumental leap forward in technology. Evinrude and Fitch got them to burn cleaner and quieter using the same tricks as modern diesel pickup trucks only Evinrude did it first.

But people's preferences or perceptions still don't explain why BRP let a nearly 100 year old name in the outboard industry die(and all their dealers too) only to come back into the market a year later under their Rotax light aircraft engine brand. That was monumentally stupid in my opinion. Plus, I miss Evinrude/Johnson. I've owned many Mercury products, good stuff too. It's not a Chevy Vs Ford thing, it's more about choices and innovations for us peasants.
