Need help beating the heat

Misters with lake water is an issue... the water is very hard and clogs the nozzles even with a good filtration system. We tried that and they work for ~ 1 week ;).

The other thing we tried was what we called the BassOMatic ... This was a complete experiment that worked and had me and my crew laughing. We took a large radiator, a decent size fan, a sump pump, and about 50 ft of hose. The pump pushed water from ~ 40ft down through the radiator and out another hose back into the water. The fan. well, you know how this works.... We used a Honda 1000 gen set for all of it and the BTU numbers that we figured out were HUGE ... Don't ask me to remember the numbers, but the thing worked. Cooled the old Skipper Liner down better then the AC...

Thanks everyone for their input. To clarify i am not on a house boat but a cabin cruiser that is in my profile pic. As a kid i always slept on the deck and have never had an issue but also never went in August to Powell. If i have the room and ability, i dont see whats wrong with a little extra comfort which is why when i saw Prestons post about having an AC it was a light bulb moment. What i posted above was something that just looked interesting and might work just as well for my needs without needing a generator to go with it. It would also be much easier to use in my scenario.

This has been a game changer for us during the heat.
Wish I found this years ago.
Top tip. Anchor it out 40 ft from the back of the house boat and turn upside down at night or during wind over 15mph.

I wonder why you don't see more misters used at the lake. Can make a huge difference in comfort levels. I've considered adding one to the top deck of our houseboat. What is the downside? (Might not be something to use at night, but certainly during the day it would help).

Heck, one of the boat manufactures is adding them as an option, put on the tower.....
I don’t leave home without it...unless the pump breaks. I’ll bring two next time. Arctic cove from Home Depot and it worked very well for the last three years of hard use.

Thanks for the info. I bought a cheap backyard misting system and planned to mount them on the Bimini. Bought a 12v pump and was planning on using lake water with an inline filter. Maybe I need to rethink that.

So true, it led me to buy a 20 pack of nozzles and I have them duck taped to the mister. We change them out a lot.

I use a oxy/acetylene set of tip cleaners when one plugs up.... Works very well. My top system was a lawn drip system hose, ( the 1/8" black plastic line and just put a needle everywhere you want a mister spot. Really cheap and surprisingly effective.. When one plugs up, just get out the needle...:cool::cool::cool:

svivian,
Our group has been using a window ac unit for about ten years now in our cruiser cabins. I'm on my second unit. We had to modify the unit so we could control the air flow. You will need a 2k generator to run the ac unit. The noise of the generator at night is the only downside, especially for those in our group that have to sleep on the beach or top side. But they work great for mid summer trips! It gets so cold in our cabin and aft cabin that usually we end up sleeping under blankets or sleeping bags. We call ours snuffy. Mostly because the contraption looks like an elephant nose. I'll post a pic of our unit later tonight when I get home from work.

I made a Mister with a 2 gallon yard weed sprayer and plumbed a single mister head from a Kennel misting unit. Real fine mist. No power just pump the sprayer and it last about 3 1/2 hours between refills of water and about 20 pumps 3 different times to empty the tank. At the drags I only have my pop up and this sprayer. COOL BREEZE.
