I would not park in the dirt even if others are or you might get a ticket... saw a few folks do this in the past and get ticketed for it. Just an FYIWe saw that there were people parked in the dirt after we launched, as seen in the above pic. Last I knew it was just considered “closed”. Looks like it may very well be possible now.
I am planning on launching in that little make shift ramp then parking in the main parking lot at the top of the rampI would not park in the dirt even if others are or you might get a ticket... saw a few folks do this in the past and get ticketed for it. Just an FYI
Looks like the coffer dam has been removed from the bottom of the ramp. That's good!People were launching off the asphalt south of the main ramp last Thursday. I was just getting pictures, and didn't pay attention to boat size restrictions.
That is what we did in 2019 when the lake was low like now. The NPS folks kind of discouraged us from using the dirt launch off the the left of the main ramp, it is definitely a "do it at your own risk" kind of thing....but they were not stopping anyone from launching there. We were launching a 17' Crestliner.I am planning on launching in that little make shift ramp then parking in the main parking lot at the top of the ramp
Ya I am launching a 17.5 foot Alumacraft that is not real heavy. I am sure that spot will be fineThat is what we did in 2019 when the lake was low like now. It looks like they flattened the cofferdam. The concrete ends very close to elevation 3570, and then the dirt/mud is level for one or two hundred feet, followed by a quick drop into the water of unknown depth. So add 3570 plus whatever depth you need for boat plus trailer to get a usable elevation for the main ramp.Looks like the coffer dam has been removed from the bottom of the ramp. That's good!
It looked like asphalt or gravel, possibly put down in 2005 or really early days. In 2005 they had steel plates down too. Thanks for the report, I'm getting excited to go down there in a few weeks! How soft is the dirt launch to the left of the main ramp? Is there any gravel or base to it? I have a 17 foot aluminum so that is plenty light but I could see people spinning their wheels pulling boats out and making a mess for the next person to get stuck in...
Where we launched in 2019, it was all gravel/rock, but it was firm. We did not park down there though, we parked in the regular long term parking area at the top of the ramp....Thanks for the report, I'm getting excited to go down there in a few weeks! We launched here in 2005 too. It was a little bit messy at 3560' but we got it done without mishap. Everyone will just need to be patient and COURTEOUS and it'll work again this year. We had the same 20' aluminum boat then that we have now; not sure how it'll work with a cruiser.People were launching off the asphalt south of the main ramp last Thursday. Do you suggest I use the exec ramp in a few weeks then or the dirt spot?Where we launched in 2019, it was all gravel/rock, but it was firm. We did not park down there though, we parked in the regular long term parking area at the top of the ramp....
I am thinking of using this spot. Lot's of people using without issue? I have a Tacoma with a 17.5 alumacraftPeople were launching off the asphalt south of the main ramp last Thursday. I was just getting pictures, and didn't pay attention to boat size restrictions.
Let us know how that goes!I am going down tomorrow planning on launching at the main ramp , going to leave my boat on the beach , go unload my trailer in the parking lot . Drive to Hobie Cat and walk back to my boat. I am not going to walk up that Hill to park . Then I can beach my boat right by my truck and load and unload . Without climbing that ramp.
Thanks buddy! As always I wish we had more time but can’t complain with my best trip yet. Slowly learning a couple parts of that giant body of water! And quite frankly even if not catching anything, just being in the sun and enjoying the sites is worth it!Glad you got into theme Trent, taking advantage of weather is a major key to springtime fishing on LP!! Its a 9 hour drive from Pinedale!!
