Fishing like is fairly productive for the walleyes, are you stay in the 20 foot of water range?

The best success I have had is in the 40 - 50' range, then when slow rolling a jig with a worm 20' works best for me. By slow rolling I mean just reeling very slow and every once in a while lift rod real slow . That is my favorite because that way I don't have to hunt for the bottom and read graph so often.
I'd kinda like to put in my 2 cents worth, to Dorado and Flipper, We target walleye with bottom bouncers. We troll between 1.2 to 1.8 mph, tie our harnesses and Dorado, to help in the hanging up department, watch your depth finder. Going from deep to shallow, if you don't pull up fast, you will get hung up every time. You can follow the bottom from shallow to deep fairly effectively though. We also use 3 or 4 oz bottom bouncers, not really necessary in May but we catch walleye most of the year Sept. thru Nov. being especially productive, but also hard work because they go progressively deeper, we've caught them 40, 50, 60 ft and deeper. never had 80 to 100 walleye days, but 30 to 40 per day on many trips. We usually go once a month 3 days per trip all year long except not planning to in July or August this year. As far as nightcrawlers, my wife only uses them, but I will use a gulp crawler, some other brands too, along with a real one, or two crawlers. As Fipper notes you will catch every thing in the lake too. Last month I caught a 2lb crappie,although crappie are rare, but bluegill, catfish and striper are common. We use a 2 hook harness and when bluegill won't leave you alone, we use a piece of nightcrawler instead of a full one or in conjunction with a full one. Hope this helps a little. Last year in April and May everyone at the cleaning station had a bunch of walleye no matter what method they were using which makes our method not the most effective but the rest of the year we generally do pretty good

Couple of questions. First do you see much difference in the time of day you are fishing (and what seems to be best)? Also what areas seem to be best? Are you fishing along the main channel, or are you fishing up in the canyons? I assume you are fishing the upper part of the lake. But wondering if you have had good fishing around Bullfrog or if you are going farther North (Good Hope and Hite)?
Also has anyone had success night fishing? If so what method, depth, and where? I have always wanted to night fish for Walleye at Powell, but never really tried night fishing. I have night fished off the Bullfrog dock for stripers and they say they catch a walleye sometimes but I have never seen one caught. I know they catch larger walleye when night fishing other places, and think it should work at Powell. Probably easier to jig fish with a crawler than to bottom bounce at night.
Thanks to all that have given out information on what has worked. This is a great, and I really appreciate the info. I usually use a smile blade on my worm harness because it spins so great at slow speeds but possibly not the best vibration. We had great luck last May fishing with jigs and a crawler on rocky points along the main channel North of Bullfrog. We would bottom bounce until we caught a fish and then go back and try jigs.
When I bottom bounce it is 40-50' of water, casting and slow rolling is at walls or rock slides and then fish about 20' or more usually around 20'.

Casting cranks or trolling shallow shorelines works great at night.
We fish during the day although I'm confident really early, read that still dark, and night should be even better. We stay at Halls Crossing but our favorite places are around Good Hope Bay. I won't give specific spots because they change, even from one day to the next, depth is more important, also I like a little color to the water. We fish main lake shorelines and once the water warms a bit, find the bluegills and fish a little deeper. Sometimes
Bullfrog bay is very good, moki canyon can be good, but I never know when. We also like White canyon, Farley and that area, but a bit of a run up there. Using jigs especially after you've located the depth is a great idea that we plan to do more of this year, but again depth is most important. Most of what we do is unimportant in April and May, almost any method will get walleye, just letting you know what has worked when they are not shallow. One last note, sometimes a little faster is better and sometimes while trolling jig or rip your BB to add a little more action. Even if it really isn't necessary it makes me feel better.
