Looks like someone had a bad day (a while ago)

The guy was not a very reliable individual to say the least. He made many poor life choices. He had insurance when he bought the boat apparently let it lapse quit paying because he “couldn’t” afford it. Apparently the bank never found out. At least to his credit he paid the bank off even though he did not have the boat. Could have lied and reported it stolen, but not without insurance!
It is the law to have car insurance too, yet there are tons of people that don’t have it!
I got hit by one once, in a parking lot. Police would not issue ticket or do anything they said the accident was on private property !!! I said I don’t think she flew the car here without driving on a public road? She will be driving home in five minutes! They did nothing!
Wonder, how, in this day and age one who have a car or boat paid by a loan and somehow the lienholder is unawares said property is uninsured? Must have been a long time ago.

He probably had forced place insurance and never knew it.... missed out on having a claim covered if he was just honest about it.

I paid off a car earlier this year. When I called my agent to remove a loss payee they told me they didn’t have anyone listed.

That was Ford Motor Credit. So it does happen.

My friend was fishing an Arizona lake and the cliff above gave way sinking his boat and nearly killing him and his wife. He said he had no idea what happened but that he heard a loud noise and then was trapped on the bottom under dirt type rubble. He wiggled loose and swam up then went back down for his wife.

Some other near by fishermen witnesses this and gave aid. Five years later when the water dropped Az Game and Fish called him up and told him he had to come and get his property (the boat) or else. He was trying to get around to it when someone else called who wanted it for salvage so he gave it to them. They found his wife's purse and an unopened bottle of tequila when they cleaned the boat out, they returned those to him. He and his by then X Wife got together when he returned her purse and they opened the bottle and thought and talked about how lucky they were to be alive. He said if it hadn't been fairly shallow they would have been toast.

I wonder if now that this boat in Powell is more accessible if Park Service won't give the owners similar notice?

Amazing story! (y) Thank God for the happy ending! Question: Did your friend ever get another boat or was he done with boating after this?

This part makes me think of the Dan Fogelberg song, "Same Auld Lang Syne".

He's a lucky guy, sails through things that would wreck most of us. He's the same friend who's harness on one of his 60 hp outboards burst into flames on his way to the SanJuan for a week long trip. He pulled into Dangling Rope and was thinking of altering his plans when he saw a 60 FI Merc on a stand with a sign that said free parts. He checked with the store to be sure, swapped the harness out, fired the motor and went on his way. Lucky Guy, "don't try this at home kids"

I've never sunk a boat but I think it's easy to do at Powell, but for the grace of God there go I. (that one reason why I like Pontoon boats for Powell, may flip but very hard to sink) I thought every thing that was deemed recoverable by PS had to be?

Once the water level is just below the gunnel I think it would be a fairly easy recover this wreck as long as you didn't have or could plug any holes in the hull. Pump the water out until it floats and tow it off. If I was doing it I'd try to bring my lucky buddy along to make sure things went our way
