Live Memorial Day Weekend Report

The lake is very mildly almost busy at Wahweap Bay. I solo launched at 6:00 am and the dirt State Line Auxiliary lot was mostly full but there were a few spaces available. Activity was busy on the ramp but there was no line at 6:00 am when I launched or at 8:30 am when I retrieved. There were very few boats at the upper boat parking next to the Castle Rock Store, maybe to be expected since the Wahweap ramp is dry but anecdotally, between the two parking areas, and based on light lake boat traffic as observed from my outside slip I’d guess we are at about at 20% of usually capacity or somewhere near that for a normal 3 day Holliday weekend. I guess the bad press and high gas prices might be having an impact. Me, I like it here so much and having been coming here for so long I wouldn’t know where else to go or what else to do anyway on a holliday weekend.

My short time on the lake this morning was due to a gear case issue and then I spun a prop and didn’t have a spare. Thankfully the guys from Lake Time gave me a tow back to the dock. 🙏

It was a beautiful cool morning and I was on the lake and hiking back and forth from parking to my boat so I enjoyed the failure. You’ve got to roll with the punches here and there are always good knowledgeable people willing to rescue you. I gave up on the runabout for today and now I’m smoking ribs on my Traeger and sipping my favorite beverages. I’m glad I came. Come on in the water’s fine.

God bless the wording's, Happy Memorial Day! Never forget

Could be worse. Still the best place on earth. On a side note… behind your Traeger there are boats beached across from the marina in the no wake zone. Do you know if boats are allowed to beach and make camp there? I’ve heard conflicting reports.

Yes, it’s being done quite often now days as the bay is shrinking, Lone Rock and all. I’ve beached there before myself too, it’s quite aways from the breakwater for the marina for now, most boat traffic hugs the tire line.

Cool, it works well. It’s American made from thick steel, It’s vintage now. My friend and fellow house boater Joe who has passed on traded it to me for an old car that had been totaled, he owned a car shop and wanted the engine.

It’s appropriate that it lives on at Waheeap, he was constantly cooking, sharing anll the goods and he made the best BBQ. He tried to teach me how to use it, he was very passionate about cooking, Today we had pork and beef “Dino” ribs, eight hours of cooking and resting time, delicious.

Thanks for sharing
