This spring Lake Powell water was the clearest it has been in the last 43 years (personal observation). Mussels will have a major impact. The only positive note is that Lake Powell is warmer then the Great Lakes (80+ in summer) and that might limit some of the mussels ability to thrive.

And a lot of them are going to die every year because of the ever changing water level at Lake Powell.

I agree. The water level changes will definitely have an influence on this.
