I am an agricultural user of adjudicated water rights. I have also received 4 grants (50/50 coop) from the NRCS for conversions to improved irrigation methods.

I am also a sportsman and a fisher and I am asserting my claim to the recreational right to use the water in Lake Powell, its shoreline infrastructure and its fish. Regardless of the reservoir's level, I have a right to the use of the water for recreational purposes. My claim comes to the table late in the game and is inferior to the long standing, adjudicated and recorded water rights to Colorado River water. However, junior they are, my rights are still valid and its time my voice regarding the utilization and management of this water is heard.

My representation in this matter is the Blue-Ribbon Coalition and I have authorized them to speak for me and represent my interests. They speak for me and several hundred thousand others on matters of public assets.

There is no guilt felt by me enjoying my bass boat on water impounded for all of us and I certainly do not feel like a small child. As matter of fact, I am one of 12,000,000 visitors annually exercising their rights and we are pouring over $580,000,000 into the GCNRA on an annual basis. There is nothing small or ignominious about any of this: IT IS MY RIGHT!

Nothing will be granted to us if we don't ask for it. I demand my seat at the table.

Also the truth, I'm not rich enough to retire and the low, upper lake water levels have me nervous for making a living. And frankly, the weather outlook isn't helping at all!

Here on the North end of the lake, we still have soooo many attractions which are not lake based so I am shifting also. I am still loyal to the lake traffic but I also need to look forward.

Here is my latest ad creation. I think it's the best one yet. But if you notice, the focus is on other things that are not "lake" oriented.

Mead, Powell, Flaming Gorge, the Aspinall Unit, Navajo Dam were all built to reservoir water. Reservoir, as in holding it and storing it for future needs. Every one of those impoundments were built with the purpose of providing recreational activities. They all had concessionaires from day one. It was baked in the cake.

Take a look at Mojave, Lake Havasu, Matinez, Roosevelt, Apache, Canyon Lake, Sajuaro Lake, San Carlos and Lake Pleasant.

Its multiple use of precious assets and there is a lot of money changing hands; a lot of money supplied by recreational users.

Sorry Paladin, but I believe Dorado is concisely correct. Though the word; "purpose", may have been utilized to sell the idea to the public, it was nothing more than rhetoric to gain public support and avoid potential confrontation. The only true purposes of these reservoirs is flood control, drinking water, and the production of food (whether for human consumption, directly, or indirectly via livestock, etc.)... and a little power generation, relatively speaking, as a side effect. Recreation was only a selling point and we have all benefitted in good years. Recreation was not, and should not be, on the Department of the Interior's radar. If water levels, high or low, support the ancillary benefit of recreration, that is wonderful, but benign in the long term. Now, unfortunately, we have to bear through these tough years (decades?). The only real solution is birth control. However, being a father myself, not sure if I would have ever considered practicing what I preach...lol. Choice (dictation?) of crop type allowed to be grown using this water may also be something to consider legislating (i.e., get the most calorie-value of food per unit volume of water). My immediate concern is the threat of those wanting to drain Lake Powell gaining some traction, Though seemingly counterintuitive, when lake levels are the lowest is precisely the most wrong time to consider doing something so short-sighted. I think, in my lifetime, I will see Lake Powell full again, but highly doubt will ever see Lake Mead full again. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."; Spock. I agree, it is a total drag, but maybe at least we get to see some things like Gregory Arch once again. Always an upside.
 
Rhetoric?? You really think the feds do all of this stuff without revenue involved? Ever been to the Grand Canyon? Bright Angel and North Rim trails did not just suddenly appear. Check out the concessionaires the next time you are there. The National Park Service is a revenue positive machine.

Recreationists are a NON-CONSUMPIVE user of a public asset and they have a right to that use. Recreation is a huge consideration to the Dept. of the Interior. We are Americans and we own this land; the Dept. of the Interior manages our resources for our mutual benefit. I refuse to be categorized as a minor player in the decision making process particularly when I contribute a lot of cash and actually take away NO WATER. The water used to float my bass boat still nourishes strawberries in the Imperial Valley. BTW, I and a huge amount of other recreationists pay for my usage...in spades.

You mention birth control and leap into legislated crop typing (dictation) in the same post. You actually think governmental mandates over which food products a farmer grows is a viable concept? Do you really want our government telling us what we can eat? You might want to read "1984" or maybe "Das Manifesto."

BTW, here's something to chew on: Lake Powell will fill again in my lifetime...so will Mead. I'm 75.

While enjoying an awesome latte this morning, at a 7000 AMSL ski town, on a day that is suppose to hit 70F degrees in March, I stumbled across this photo - sums things up pretty well.

The photo is real, just as the science is real. Education, allowing for self evaluation is the ultimate freedom. Basically - think for yourself. The challenge is the photo is from CNN… Many of you have already decided it is fake without even seeing it - now the hard part, how can you look at a photo that is real and view it as fake only because of its source.

Three tips of the Wahweap marina are basically touching dirt… What caused this. What is the solution. Hint - Faith has zero to do with either.
