Inverter and Battery Bank

I am looking to upgrade our houseboat with a 2800 watt Magnum inverter and was wondering if anybody has a recommendation as to how many batteries (and if they would do 6 volt or 12 volt RV marine) they would attach. Also wondering if anyone has installed an inverter themselves, how hard was it and is they anything special you would recommend. Thank you in advance for your comments - Happy Powelling
 
Endurance has posted some very good well thought out information on battery selection. A lot depends on what you want to accomplish.
 
There is nothing difficult about installing an inverter or for that matter any part of a solar system as long as you can follow directions and do basic math. The previous thread mentioned is an excellent primer
