I'm 'dreaming' of an end to end trip of Powell

Choose your season wisely. Being in the main channel in a small craft can be quite the experience in moderate to high winds or when the big commercial boats plow through. The reflection waves off the canyon walls make just make it spicy. But I was a novice and paddling solo during the fringe season. But the shifting nature of the winds and gusts are to be respected.

I've sea kayaked the length of the reservoir over two trips but that was ages ago. I have fond memories of cruising at a good speed with my sail up. You can camp just about anywhere with a small boat. There were multiple 2+ day stretches when I didn't see anyone and absolutely loved the solitude. And obviously the landscape is absolutely unique.

Best of luck and enjoy the planning/anticipation. And one word advice, don't leave your WAG bag out in the sun; not because of the heat but b/c ravens are attracted to the reflection. I'll leave it up to everyone's imagination from there.

Ravens creep me out. A few years back we were the only boat on the docks at Rainbow Bridge. I had snacks in a zipped up soft cooler bag. We hiked up to the bridge and when we got back they had managed to open my zipper and eat all the chips plus to add insult to injury they pooped all over in my runabout. They were up on the cliffs watching us, there were 5 or 6 of them and I swear they were laughing at me as I wiped up with a wet towel. I had to laugh too, smart birds

With a soft cooler bag left unattended, smart birds opening it without destroying it is your best case scenario. Every other desert animal will simply chew right through it.

Edgar Allen Poe was correct: "Quoth the raven 🐦‍⬛'Nevermore'..... shall Marina Bum enjoy his chips.....or a clean boat whilst we be aboard"

🐦‍⬛

Thank you Sealegs for the Raven vidio,it reminded us of our Raven friends at LP.We call them Doug and Roxann and they show up every time we do. I am sure they know our boat, and are very friendly, probably (no offense humans )our best friends on LP ! We are looking forward to being in their company come mid March, lake level permitting, fingers crossed!

On the Raven topic..... 😋 Some years ago we had a very large beautiful Raven who would call to us from the roof....when he was hungry. We named him 'Bob'.........he would take bread that my wife made......from our hands......we thought he liked 'us'.

Later, I find out our neighbor an acre away, had the very same Raven....whom he named 'Chuck'....who took bread out of his and his wife's hand.

Crafty little sourdough/rye/wonderbread/chip eaters, eh?

😋

Guess they are always........ravenous.........
