So I finally got to see the new "Bullfrog island ramp" (as I like to call it) and it sucks!! It'll get you in the water, if you're really carefull, for a few more feet but plain and simple that was just simply terrible planning and decision making on who ever called the shots on that one and it sucks!!
Hats off to the folks that worked so hard and diligently to build it where they were told, but its extremely short and steep (and I mean steep!!) and theres a pretty shallow area not to far out. If somebody would have taken the time to graph it they would have known.
I was hoping the pics I was seeing were playing tricks on me about the location but nope! It's right in damn near the same spot we were launching the last time the water got this low and that is just not a good location if you have a couple dozers, at your disposal, and can put it where ever you want! I would have thought the park service with all there access to boats, and I would imagine depth finders, would have scoped the area and put it in the best spot possible for longer term use. Nope, nope, nope!!
The obvious spot is directly on the oppisite side of the Bullfrog main ramp where there is a nice grade for a longer term ramp and accessibilty.
Well, low and behold, the powers in charge of making all of the good decisions at Powell (and probably lots of other places they've actually never seen) must have figured that out cause when I was there yesterday, looking at it with my own eyes, the dozers were busy moving dirt to get after spending another two months building a ramp where it should have gone in the first place!!!!! (I hope, it feels like I need to go down and check on them every couple days just to make sure)

I think where the Bulldozers are working right now is the ramp , the temporary ramp is just that temporary . What i gathered was the work has not been thought through and and they have been told its to steep . Lets hope they rework that ramp , because I am not coming back tell they do.
 
Launched/retrieved 26 ft. bowrider last Thursday/Friday. I used the "temporary" dirt ramp to launch both days which is easy due to how steep that ramp (if you can call it that) is. Loading was a real challenge due to it being too steep to find a good depth on the trailer and it is uneven on top of that. Second day we launched on that dirt ramp as the parking is great, but then loaded on the North ramp. Total pain, but a solution. You have to really want it to make Bullfrog work for you now...

They are defnitely making progress on the channel side of the "island". Looks to be wider and at a much better angle. The depth is better there as well. One note of caution on the current steep ramp is the prop eater 15 - 20yds to the shore side. It's visible, but sneaky if you do not watch for it.

And I could not agree with all of the above more. Outside of here, it is nearly impossible to find any info on the plans from the mysterious "they" who are making the decisions.
 
I see the executive is unusble now. Any info. Launching Saturday and want to use the executive . I hope they throw a few more plates down as the exutive ramp is still over 10’. I launched at 3519.99 and don’t want to launch at the new primitive that is steep. I show up early 06:00 and retrieve whenever. Just curious if the executive ramp be extended till the other ramp is usable.
