And we seem to be on a direct path for NPS as they come and go from the Halls NPS office. I think they passed on average about 6x a day when we moved in May
I think you need to give the slips a chance. Honestly, we will never be anywhere but the slips again. Probably half the trips we take, the houseboat doesn't leave the slip. And only one year did we get hassled about swimming (yes I know the electrical hazard risk).
No, I do know and understand them. Very few people are killed each year doing it. And while I haven't run the numbers, I would be willing to bet that your odds of dying in a car accident on the drive to the lake are much higher than your odds of being electrocuted swimming in the slips.I am going to suggest that, you don't know or understand the risk, if you are still swimming at the docks.
I guess if swimming at the houseboat is your main thing, maybe the slips aren't for you.Yes, but we’re talking about the “Bride”, I think she was “Born to Swim”. Sq
We don't need to drive this off topic. The numbers are actually MUCH higher then you think, and that includes Lake Powell. However speaking of insurance, it would be costly to fix an old dock but a requirement on anything new. So it's a numbers game with Aramark and their insurance... do you know what the last payout was for this issue. No, I do know and understand them. Very few people are killed each year doing it. And while I haven't run the numbers, I would be willing to bet that your odds of dying in a car accident on the drive to the lake are much higher than your odds of being electrocuted swimming in the slips.
Life is full of risks. I know many people are more risk averse than I am.
JBWell the saga continues, Markel denied us insurance after we did everything they asked and even secured a slip (as that was latest requirement). Really sounding like insurance companies are not interested in multi-owner houseboats. So what we have is older rental, 1998 60' Sumerset which is an aluminum hall with 18 owners. Latest survey was May of this year and everything is solid and well maintained (this is not some trashed boat ready to sink LOL).
We are onto another lead via Evolution Insurance which is out of Utah and I believe directly write policies to Prime Insurance. We worked a different angle to get the $30K quote and working with Evolution looks to be much cheaper and they seem interested in writing us a policy. Boat is out of the water right now waiting for underwriter review and hopefully we secure policy to get back in the water.
Houseboating could be limited if houseboat owners are not able to secure insurance policies (crazy times indeed in all areas right now).
Thanks all for continued discussions and ideas...
We hope to find out tomorrow, I spoke directly to underwriter today and gave them everything they asked and answered all remaining questions. The remaining houseboat insurers all seem very busy and the underwriting unfortunately takes time and then you get into back and forth with questions and documents and then you get back inline with getting time back with underwriting.
