Has anyone considered using cranes to launch and retreive boats?

Who said that 1000lb hoist was the only solution? That was just the hoist from the pier. Look at the link I posted and you'll note that it contained THREE solutions:

A. Pier with a hoist (up to 1000lbs).
B. Sport launch -- drive through style launching of boats up to 28'
C. Mobile hoist -- boats up to 60' long and 60gt


It certainly is viable -- it might be costly, but it is not out of the realm of possibility.

I sat and watched 10 boats get hauled out of the drive-through sport launch at Port San Luis (video above) last summer on a holiday weekend. It took about 30 minutes total. With people that know how to use the lift, and good boat owners (driving), it isn't slow at all. The trucks \ trailers just get in line. The straps are put under the boat and secured, the lift raises - extends - lower, the straps are removed, truck 1 pulls off and truck 2 moves in, the lift raises-extends-lowers, and it starts over. It's as fast as the winch lines can reel in, and reel out. Honestly, it isn't any slower than a ramp. The only difference is it is single-use one-at-a-time....


......so build two. Or three.
