Hard top on top deck of houseboat

Donn's was talking about a structural top for : 14' x 20' @ $1,300.00 lineal feet = over $ 36,000.00 ??
 
I think the structural vs. non-structural means whether or not you can walk on it. A lot of shade tops are meant to just give shade and maybe support some solar panels or a VHF marine radio antenna but not support the weight of foot traffic. A top that just gives shade will cost less than one you walk on.
 
Chris, I can build either structural or non- structural, but can't give you a price without more information.. Endurance is right about the difference in tops. The best you could do with the non -structural would be to put solar on top.
 
When the time comes to replace our upper canvas, I was considering looking into using fiberglass sheeting as a more permanent solution. The Canyon Daze, which moors right across from us at Bullfrog, had a company down in Page (don't remember which one) do something similar with their top a couple years ago and it looks good. If you already have a good aluminum frame, I would think materials for doing that sort of conversion would be pretty inexpensive (less than $1000).
 
The hardtop quote for our 50' Skipperliner was about $15,000. The cost for canvas replacement is $3400. Life of the Sunbrella canvas has been about 8 years. We decided to keep doing the canvas as we won't be around for the 30year plus break even time. Our canvas is on a substantial frame and can take 2 ceiling fans.
