Hope the boils kept you from getting to GHB

I am not really a fisherman, so I wouldn't say that is what kept me. We had a lot of people on the boat enjoying various water sports and thought we typically make our way to Good Hope, this time we just didn't get all the way there. we literally turned around one bend away after burning up the whole morning. We never seemed to get back up that way. Water conditions from Seven Mile to Knowles were perfect all week for our activities, so we elected to not bother the die hards.

Just got back... Didn't make it all the way to Good Hope, but was a couple bends away. Water clarity improved by the day and up those bends it now resembles typical late June early July conditions. Debris is reducing significantly. Weirdly, last Sunday there were massive schools of carp feeding on plankton in the channel. By the hundreds in areas. I have never seen that before. I kept thinking we were encountering debris, but it was just carp. Has anyone ever seen that behavior before? They were gone on Monday. It was like they had to go to church and then left the next day.

I saw the same thing. I thought I was finally going to need that spare prop I’ve been carrying around, but it was just huge schools of carp. It was pretty cool to see. I wish I had taken some pictures.

We saw one baby boil in Warm Springs. Nothing else though. The only biting fish seemed to be the ones that kept biting us in the water. Only saw a few fisherman and they didn’t seem to be having much luck.

I was up in red canyon two days ago. No surface action was seen from tapestry wall to there. That’s where the water clarity also got bad. Still a lot of logs in the water so be careful. We saw the most boils between bullfrog and iceberg. However we did catch a ton of stripers in red canyon on anchovies. The action was so fast in fact that we are skipping the boils and going back to red canyon today.
It’s so stinking hot .

How is the water clarity and floating logs/debris situation between Bullfrog and Knowles? Heading there next week and wondering if I can head north that far..... Or head south. Need good water, less logs, and some boils to chase! Thanks for info!

The water clarity as of last Friday was OK. The log/debris diminished considerably over the week but with the recent rain, it may have flushed a whole new batch out of the canyons. There is a lot of driftwood on the periphery of the lake and up the canyons, but the channel was largely clear. As I mentioned earlier, there were massive schools of carp feeding on plankton that looked like debris, but scattered as you approached them. Weird...

The water has considerable murkiness still. clarity was only about 4-5 feet. I couldn't see my feet while swimming and the thermocline was only about 2-3 feet deep, though the surface water was really deep. That is probably keeping the boils from really materializing.

By the way, I meant the surface water was really WARM. Water temp was 85 or so at the surface, but got comfortable right below.

From experience the striper schools tend head towards the murky water, murky water hold nutrients that plankton eat and the shad follow plankton and the stripers follow shad. So I’d say if the waters up north are murky, it’s a safe bet the stripers are following the food chain. Of course followed by an IMO, it’s like predicting the weather

Makes sense on paper for sure. However the reports are showing many more boils south of Bullfrog than North of Bullfrog. I guess if the fish can't see the shad, they can't ball them up and get after them as easily?
