An old friend left them to me when he passed away. I had never seen a baby bat lure, and just curious if any one else on here had. I never use it, the fish I'm looking for eat full grown ones

I remember those bat lures! They were strictly a mail order deal. I remember the ads for them in outdoor magazines around the mid-1960s. I think they were on the opposite page from the Charles Atlas ads depicting a bully kicking sand in a skinny guy's face and just above the ad on how to become an insurance claims adjuster (the one with the girl laying on the side of the street with her skirt hiked up and a guy squatting next to her taking notes). The bat lure supposedly gave out ultrasonic waves which the company said drove fish to hit it. I remember they ad talking about how great they worked at a stocked trout pond in Illinois on a day no one was catching anything! I knew a couple guys who ordered them but never heard of anyone catching anything on them.

Another thing I found was some mini pop gear. Anyone tried them at Powell?

Yes. I have quite a few in my boat. I deployed them one day thinking it would depict feeding shad. No bites in a couple hours so I put them away

not sure what is worse -- still having those old lures or actually knowing the names of them!!!! I have trouble with Yamamoto and ned rig!!!

My friend that left the baits to me was from West Virgina and he got me fishing Powell. He had been fishin it from when it started filling in the late 60s. And had seen Powell in its prime. With a lot of nice Large mouths and Crappie. I Had fished Pelican for years and was use to sight fishing Bluegill and large mouth bass in crystal clear water. So I knew what they liked.
I got there to Farley's canyon at the end of April and all I took with me were 40 to 50 dozen nightcrawlers. I was having 100+ fish days and my friend was using jigs, and I was catching 3 to his 1. He told me 'Boy I didn't know you could catch fish on nightcrawler's like that. I was using whole crawlers and never leaving Farleys canyon. It was an awesome time for fishing, and got me hooked for life on Powell
And I believe you could still do that with crawlers, but I only use them now, when Its tough fishing But I all ways take Crawlers every trip
The lake was 3670+ that first year and all of the canyons were a lot clearer water at that level. I was site fishing brush, and it don't get any better then that, in my opinion.
I hope we see those days again, and I really don't care if they blame it on global warming or not

Yes, I have a baby bat lure in my old box. Never used....was given to me by my grandpa before he passed. Mine is red and silver though...not black.

I have taken mice out of Splake from Joes Valley several times back when I fished there, and a pine cone out of one. I all ways figured the fish thought it was a mouse. But have never taken a bat out of any.
