GHB Camp area suggestions

The stripers are skinny this year. I just walked in from three days. I boated roughly 180 fish and every single striper over 16 in was a snake. There are tons of little guys though. There is also a lot of bait in that area as well. The good news was I woke up to a boil off the back of my boat this morning in the back of blue notch. It was also my first trip in years where I didn’t catch a walleye or a crappie.

Good luck.
You have to go temp me to spend another $,$$$ in fuel with reports of boils;)

Were you running your downriggers? Are the stripers starting to move up in the water column? I’ve been trying to leave my downriggers at home when we go to Powell, but the last few trips were pretty slow, and the fish seemed to be hanging around 45-60 feet.
We were not. I don't think there is any need for downriggers at this time. We had fish from the bottom all the way to the surface throughout the day. We spent significant time trolling and caught fish on virtually every crankbait we used. While spooning, I could literally put less than 4 feet of line off the tip of my rod and catch as many stripers as I wanted. The largest stripers we caught were caught in deeper water with spoons but like someone else said the larger stripers were in pretty poor health. The smaller stripers were much healthier and they were accessible in shallow water.

At one point, I decided to throw top water lures to see if stripers would come to the surface and we ended up seeing numerous fish come to the surface chasing shad...and the birds would really come in to, especially the seagulls. PBH almost caught a gull that attacked his topwater. Fish wanted to boil and were sporadically hitting the surface, but they were short lived. I am sure there are some good boils happening in this area...

You have no worries looking for good flat relativly smooth places to tent camp in the GHB area. Ray Charles and Stevie wonder could find a place up there. A couple areas to start looking: the left side of Ticaboo going in, the Blue notch area, on the right side of the main channel from Castle butte clear up to Scorup, and the right side of Scorup going in. there are at least 100 places that meet the requirements you said you needed. I personally take a tent and never get it out. I fish till dark, and find a place to pull the boat up on the bank and sleep in the boat.
