GHB Camp area suggestions

Heading to GHB for the first time Nov 14-16. Does anyone have any suggestions on an area to look for flat ground to camp? We need about a 15x15 area which can be hard to find sometimes. Anywhere up there that's treated you better for getting out of the W?

Blue Notch is really good for this right now. At this water level, it is a very protected bay. Use your sonar to get into the channel going in -- there is a long shallow point coming off Red Canyon -- not scary but worth paying attention to when getting in / out of Blue Notch:

Where we ended up -- might be tight for bigger boats. We were in an 18.5ft Ranger Reata. This had a great flat spot for the tent, protection from the wind, and out of site from the main channel -- although bass boats regularly entered those coves (no big deal). And there should be some very well-fed catfish hanging out in that spot too!

There is firewood everywhere -- no worry for it! Same with stripers.

There are lots, and lots, and lots of good places to camp up there -- you'll be able to take your pick of whatever spot you need.

Awesome, thanks for the great info. We are looking forward to it!

Did you guys get into any walleys while you were there? Hoping for some of those too.

The stripers are skinny this year. I just walked in from three days. I boated roughly 180 fish and every single striper over 16 in was a snake. There are tons of little guys though. There is also a lot of bait in that area as well. The good news was I woke up to a boil off the back of my boat this morning in the back of blue notch. It was also my first trip in years where I didn’t catch a walleye or a crappie.

Good luck.

Mine is an earlier model with fiberglass poles. On one hunting trip we had problems with winds that were gusting to 40 MPH. Outside of that, I haven't had any issues with wind. I also had an issue where after hours of rain, the canvas weighed the center poles down and the top of the tent collapsed. I have since purchased the rain fly and haven't had the problem again. My brothers have springbar tents and I have always hated the set up and take down. I like my tent for ease of setup and takedown, the amount of room--walking and standing. I wouldn't use it if I were expecting rough weather conditions. But, I don't want to be camping in those conditions anway...

Were you running your downriggers? Are the stripers starting to move up in the water column? I’ve been trying to leave my downriggers at home when we go to Powell, but the last few trips were pretty slow, and the fish seemed to be hanging around 45-60 feet.
