Flying over Lake Powell

In 2002 I was in Zahn Bay on the San Juan when 2 - B1B's flew over. It was a real wakeup call. The first one flew over and my buddy mentioned that he didn't get a picture, but I mentioned they usually fly in pairs. A minute or so later the second one flew over. It was awesome.

I, too, was buzzed by 3 fighter jets on the San Juan a few years ago. We were camped on Grey Ghost beach when they came screaming out of Paiute Canyon, one chasing the other (with another high above observing). Scared the hell out of me, as they were directly overhead before we heard or saw them. Cards and cribbage board all ended up on the sand! They turned upriver and into the Great Bend. I'm almost fairly certain I was on the verge of skunking Kelcher before the interruption.

LMAO…For the Cribbage illiterate…

1) “Cribbage” is a card game where points scored are tracked with pegs on a cribbage board.
2) ”Skunking” is beating one’s opponent by 30 points or more.
3) “Kelcher” apparently would be Raven Haven’s unfortunate opponent that particular day.

Carry on.

About the same time we were parked in Iceberg under the first arch on the right and had two B1B,s go over headed down lake just above the rim. A short time later a flight of Apache helos flew by below the rim going into the canyon. Don't know where they were based out of. Never heard the bombers coming but sure knew when they left. Military doesn't believe in mufflers. Pretty impressive.
