Fishing with the coyote

While fishing yesterday, I saw what I thought was a coyote on the shoreline, far across the bay. But, it was more black than grey so I thought it could be an otter. While contemplating, the black coyote jumped into the water (so yes it was an otter). Then 3 coyotes (grey) ran along the shoreline and tried to find the otter. Luckily they were too late and the otter survived to swim another day. ;)

Only 4 permits a year for sheep hunting around Powell I believe. Good luck. I have seen several nice rams.

I'm not sure what your "around Powell" boundary consists of, but the total number of sheep tags for units that surround Powell = 41. That excludes tribal land on the southern shore and up the San Juan. I have no idea what the tribes do with their management.

one year at Hite the coyotes would be sitting up in the rocks waiting for boats to come to the ramp. As soon as you would pull away, the coyotes would come down and grab whatever you might have left behind -- particularly fish carcasses.

It's obvious that very few people hunt coyotes around Powell.

Interesting GIF ! What year is this from?

The water level looks pretty high for the marina area in recent times - possibly 3650-ish.

The video quality suggests a more recent date, July 2017, when the reservoir elevation reached 3636.

The other possible option would be the summer of 2011, when Powell peaked at 3660.

Why would you do that though? Have some self-respect, for crying out loud.
What doe's shooting a Coyote have to do with self respect? When our fish and game have a bounty on them, I know of people that have had there small dog's killed by Coyote's. I could kill them for that reason alone. But when I'm at Powell, I'm thinking about killing fish not Coyote's, and so is Dungee.
A lot of the Coyote's that you see are around structure's and people, so you would be illegal shooting them any way.
