Fire Suppression Activity Between Good Hope and Castle Butte

Just FYI, NPS just posted on FB that there will be fire suppression activities associated with the Babylon Fire resulting in aircraft pulling water from the lake between Good Hope Bay and Castle Butte. I couldn't find a good non-FB link, so I have just had to post that instead.

Wasting water? If I lived in the path of these fires I don't think I would see it as a waste. Compared to all the other beneficial uses for water, fire suppression is up on the list.

Currently Powell is letting out about 7,800cfs of water through the dam. It looks like large tanker planes can hold about 10,000 gallons. There are about 7.5 gallons per cubic foot of water.

That means about 5.5 tankers would remove the same amount of water that is released through the dam every second.

In other words, water scoopers removing water from the lake is pretty insignificant.

We were in Oak Canyon with the houseboat during a lightning caused fire on Navajo Mt. The heavy lift choppers were reloading about 100yd behind the houseboat. Fun to watch!! There were two working the fire and they were dropping water on about 15 min cycles each. The only problem they had was the nearest fuel was their tanker truck at Halls. They had to go there to refuel. Chuck

Think about wasting water next time you have a sandwich on wheat bread. Those farmers are struggling to keep their wheat fields. That is their bread & butter

So we can all say,,,,,,
Don't eat beef because it take So Much water for beef, so cal takes soooo much water to raise beef, DONT EAT BEEF,,, eat vegatables. So Cal raises 95 percent of the vegetables for the whole United States in the winter,,,,,, but they use Soooooo much water we cant recreat at Lake Powell. Don't eat vegetables.
Nobody else in the whole seven states drawing off the Colorado River use as much as So.Cal!!!! Nobody else in the seven states are taking water conservation process,,,,,, because its all So. Cals fault.

3000 to 4000 per chopper at a time,,,,, how many times a day per chopper??? How many choppers per day??? We are so ready to blame the lower states for water use,,,,,,,,,, take away from their livleyhood,,, but when it affects us,,,,,,,,,, its ok to use all that you need? Again ,,,,,,,,, being feciitiuous. Its not a laughing matter,,,,,,, but both sides are reality!!!
