The lake master can be off by 15-20, but on the whole it is a must have at powell. I fish for stripers the exact same as I do for lakers and Kokanee. I just swap out dodger and kokanee lure for a Rapala j-13. The Kokanee fishing is going to be pretty rough this year. They didn’t post great numbers on last years spawn and the Kokanee are on a four year cycle.
Cool good to know. Thank you!

If you're after Kokanee and willing to go to The Gorge consider going a few miles further to Fontenelle Reservoir. Better catch rates and larger fish.
I hit fontenelle a few times and never found any big numbers or sizes of kokes. I’m sure they’re there though. However the peak seemed to have been a few years ago.

Kokanee fishing seemed down EVERYWHERE last year for one reason or another. The only constant was high runoff and filling reservoirs. I’m sure that, scientifically, there’s something to that. We’ll see what this year brings.

I’m with you Trent, I had a few good days on Fontenelle, but it was tough. I think all Kokanee fisheries tend to be cyclical, it definitely was a down year. I actually did pretty good on Boulder, but the size is more 12”-16” with occasional 18”.

If you looking for KOUS's (Kokanee Of Unusual Size) Fontenelle is the place to go. I bet my top 10 are from Fontenelle and some even rival Sockeye from Alaska. I have been there and been skunked on occasion. Just like Powell one day the fishing can be hot and the next not.

The guys I’ve talked to that fish strawberry said the same thing. That it was just slow. I really think there was something to all that water coming in. Lots of ideas of what it could be…none proven. Just too much of a coincidence that all kokanee fisheries in Utah annd Wyoming were “off” last year.

Might have make a trip that way. Thanks

I got my butt kicked this last year at Blue Mesa for kokes. But I did find a few nice ones, perch however was off the charts.
