Filtering/Treating Lake Water For Drinking

Those little pump filters must work. I was in my blind elk hunting last year and some hiker walks up to the cattle tank and pumped the water and drank it. I just watched 30 head of cattle in that water poop, pee and drink at the same time before he got there.

Pulling filtered water from the lake - fine. But the above description is just gross - even if it is safe to drink. Ugh.
