Just picked this fillet board from Cabelas yesterday and I think its going to work great!

I know this has been discussed at length on the old board but since that is caput I wanted to bring it up again. What is everyones verdict on electric knives? We've never used one, but the older I get the more one sounds appealing, especially for boil season. I think the last sentiment on the old board was that its a bit of a crap shoot? Some last forever but the same brand and knife lasted an hour? Anyone use the battery powered Rapala one?

Currently we have a couple sizes of the rapala fillet knives and a great Buck fillet knife. We get by fine but just wanted to get some more great info out of everyone ha. Thanks!

Preston

I agree that the electric knife is a great tool when striper fishing is good. 30 - 60 fish is a lot to filet at one sitting.
The reciprocating blades go through the ribs of the large stripers effortlessly. Keep a couple so when the first one starts to get hot you can lay it down to cool and switch to electric knife number two. My buddy swears by the Rapala cordless.

We do the assembly line as well. one guy loads the table with fish out of the bag and throws the skins and carcasses back for the catfish.
second guy knock the sides off of them. Third guy skins and cuts the ribs away for a boneless skinless filet. Fourth guy rinses in a bowl of water
and loads them into a gallon freezer bag.DSCN0011_737.JPG

Yes electric does better if you filet thru the ribs. Most of ours are off the ribs. Wayne has a great how to video if you want to see the master in action!!!

Have the Rapala and the American Angler, no trouble with the Rapala but the American gets the nod, seems a bit stronger. Cant speak personally, but buddies that have tried the battery powered Rapala were thoroughly disappointed. Also bought one of those boards from Cabelas while they were on sale, haven't used it yet, but was definitely impressed with the quality.

Walmart electronic bread knife. Around $10. been using them for about 5 years. I keep 3 in my boat at all times because the gears usually strip out after about 150-200 stripers. Dont have trouble with the gears on smaller bone fish like the smaller smallies and crappie. But the big rib stripers seem to work the knife more. Walmart will take them back on return if they fail but for me I feel I get my $10 out of them after 200 stripers. We bring a little a generator to charge boat batteries at night so the 110 volt isnt an issue.
