Favorite soft plastics for Lake Powell

I watched a video about how to fish the ned rig by @Dungee and thought it was excellent.

In the video he talks about keeping contact with the bait. One thing I wasn't quite sure on was whether the goal is to keep contact with the bait as it swings through the water column, or if the goal is also to have the bait keep contact with the bottom. I'm king of assuming the answer is either or it depends on what the fish like, but I thought I'd ask.

As with most soft plastics and finess techniques you want to keep in contact with the bait as much as possible throughout the whole process, bottom, swimming, landing etc.. For me that was always the last thing to kind of master with the technique. Nixon as a nine year old is starting to grasp this just now, it’s not just reel until you feel one have it, it’s the anticipation, and then reeling down or into a hook set. With that feel comes the understanding of contact, then you will eventually be able to decipher when your jig head is on a rock, dragging over a rock, coming over some wood, or, when a fish has it in its mouth. It’s the best way to fish. If given the choice of catching a 100 fish with a crank or 50 with a soft plastic I’d take the soft plastic everyday. It’s one reason we aren’t big trollers. Yes it can be affective and more affective for certain processes. But to me, and most of our crew it’s just plain not as fun.

the answer is yes and yes.
Many times you will get picked up on the sink so be ready. You need to "fish" the bait the entire time.

Not plastics but how many fish do you think we caught on these in the late 70s and 80s?

I remember the old days when there was a live waterdog tank at every marina. Would be cool if someone had a photo of one of those. As a kid I used to love to look in them and dream about what it would be like to fish with them.
