Don't Buy The Utah NR License

Utah non-resident combo license= $120
Arizona non-resident combo license= $160
Montana= $117.50
Wyoming= $102
Idaho= $108
Colorado= $117

Arizona is the worst. Also, it's Wyoming that requires UT people to have a reciprocal license at Flaming Gorge which is ridiculous. Neither state should require a stamp, especially in a lake with two overpopulated species.
Just a 3 day in Montana costs you $100. With all the added stamps etc... you have to buy

Since an Arizona non-resident license allows you to fish anywhere on the lake, just simply buy the $55 Arizona license. When Arizona decides to raise theirs, then it’s time to question the fees. If you live in Colorado, I believe most probably buy their license online, so it really doesn’t matter which state it’s bought from. Just buy the cheapest one.

Yawn... It costs me $150 to fuel my boat and we are debating about $100 to fish Powell all year ? Let's at least whine about AIS fees... since they are paid by each state. Once again it is $25 but it is the concept for me lol

I have more of an issue with the worthless test that is required for the UT AIS program than the fee (although I’m not happy about that either).

At least the fishing license does offer some value. AIS does not. Colorado will not recognize anything done in another state, so despite going through the exit inspection I’m still subject to another inspection when I enter the state and then a decontamination prior to launching in any Colorado water.

But I guess we can all take solace in the knowledge that any and all money the states and Feds appropriate from the citizens is well shepherded, and spent with the utmost in care without waste……

I don’t mind paying a little extra if I know the money is being used well. I’m already buying a hunting license in Utah and AZ every year so I don’t need to buy an Utah fishing license for Powell. Might drop out of the nonresident hunting in Utah though. The $$$ for nonresident deer tags doesn’t seem to be helping deer in Utah for the last 30 years. Even if you can afford it, at a certain point the ridiculous cost to hunt as a nonresident just doesn’t make sense to many of us.

The AIS is far from perfect but at least muscles are not spreading to other lakes yet. I think the biggest reason we don’t see muscle spread is because most boats are very low risk for spread. Unfortunately I’ve heard of multiple incidents of people that launch their boats at other lakes a day or two after being on Powell without decontamination.

Nevada has a border waters license just because of AZ. I buy one for mead. I am wondering if Utah will shortly require a UT license for their part of Powell. That’s how it works at Flaming Gorge. Probably just a matter of time.
You also get CA border water. Pretty good deal Powell to the Mex border.
