So the canyon directly to the West of Dangling Rope Canyon is called "Government's Canyon" and there is a sign warning about trespassing and a fine. I would highly discourage walking up to the property unless you are in a real emergency. I wouldn't be surprised that if you get caught up there just snooping around you could get a huge trespassing ticket depending on who catches you. Plus, if there are any NPS staying up there at any point, you don't just want to be sniffing around where they live. Can be quite alarming to see a stranger just walking around outside your house in the middle of nowhere.

There is still a lot of dangerous equipment up there that can get a curious man killed or seriously injured. Be smart.
 
What Dangling Dooley didn’t mention is that he and his fellow DR employees would all end up at our houseboat when we were on the lake. Talk about a party!

The funniest night was up in rock creek and a few new DR employees as well as some of the regulars ended up at our houseboat for the night. A few drinks had been had and the houseboat was about 50 yards from the fire pit. Well wouldn’t you know it, later in the night the new DR employee came walking back up to the fire pit where we were all hanging out. Yes it was dark but we soon all realized he was lacking all his clothing.

He and another male DR employee started to jokingly wrestle in the sand. Let’s just say they ended up exhausted and in a numeric position. Haven’t laughed that hard in years.

And yes as dangling Dooley mentioned, the houses up there were the worst place I have ever stayed at. But what would you expect with a bunch of single 20 year old something men and maybe a one or two ladies. Don’t even ask what was in the microwave oven.

Those days and nights with the DR employees will be cherished and missed.

To be fair, that story was from 2012 before I worked at DRM. As funny as that was, naked wrestling never occurred when I was worked there...that I know of.

My friends and I would pile on a ski boat and crash my folk's houseboat trip every year. It got to a point though that my dad (Brent) said DR is only allowed to come 1 night during our week trip. I don't blame him. We would stay up til 3AM sometimes.

Brent, have you gone out on your houseboat trip this year?

Headed out 8/1 to 8/8 Not sure if Brad is going or not. But we do have a full boat this year! Probably end up at the entrance to gunsight or some where in Padre. Unless all to crowded then going to try to be around the entrance of Last Chance or West. How about you?

I didn't get mine out this year. I also use Laketime, and go out in early July, but just couldn't get enough people this year.
 
Aye! Hell why wait till 2023. I'm confident some one on this site can get a houseboat later this year. Say early September. Just think, lower temps, nice lake temps, less people. And we can all learn from each other great things on how to boat, anchor, have fun, cook, explore, fish, party!
