Brian, interesting on your comment of fast-fast for the stripers. When we were down a couple weeks ago, we were trolling for stripers we picked the speed up and did much better. Also I was holding my rod since we ended up with mounts but no rod holders in the boat LOL.
I started jigging my rod pretty quickly as we trolled on one session we got 10 Stripers, I caught 9 of them and every-one was just as I had quickly/violently jigged it. I told my buddy jig your rod, he wouldn't just to be obstinate LOL or he didn't want to have to fillet too many. LOL:)
On a couple other occasions that trip, when he was reeling in a fish, he would slow the boat to bring it in faster. I would then speed reel and stop, repeat and every time I did it we doubled, they loved the added speed.
I bet the stripers almost pulled the rod out of your hands a few times while trolling. My wrist is sore from their violent strikes and hard pulling. My wrist prefers 12" smallmouths over 2-3lb stripers. I hope the shad/stripers do well with rapidly rising water and I can make my wrist deal with a bunch of 5lb stripers again.
