Saturday 5/23: North from Bullfrog - hopping from spot to spot all the way to 7 mile. Not as many fish as years past, and most were smaller. The larger fish were done spawning and skinny. Still in post spawn funk. Water is stained off color starting at about Forgotten. Bluegill, green sunfish, walleye, largemouth, smallmouth, and striper plus one giant carp that ate a swimbait. Caught about 100 fish. Trolled up striper at the mouth of every canyon we stopped at. Trolled Berkley Flicker Shad and some wobbly bait my son found. Best luck while casting was smaller swimbaits and grubs.
Sunday 5/24: South from Bullfrog - ended up in San Juan arm with multiple stops along the way. Lots of fish on chunk rock banks. Again, most were small, and the larger fish were spawned out leaving them skinny. Caught right at 200 fish. Bluegill, green sunfish, walleye, largemouth, smallmouth, crappie, striper and one catfish. If we weren't throwing small swimbait retrieved super slow, or a grub we weren't getting bit. The size of bluegill is neat to see. We did see a striper boil just off the Bullfrog launch ramp. Caught a few out of it.
Monday 5/25: Halls Creek and Bullfrog - Halls creek is small compared to what is used to be. Caught some largemouth, striper, smallmouth and walleye. Not a lot, just enough to keep it interesting. Bullfrog is the same way. Bigger fish are deeper (20+ feet). Caught another carp. They pull like mules.
Overall: Fishing wasn't quite as good as normal, but still an incredible fishery.
Notes:
Bullfrog Launch: 2 lanes open, pretty easy to launch. Saw some big boats come and go from there.
Mouth of bullfrog bay begins the no wake zone as you hit the main channel. Be cautious through here. Lots and lots of patrol boats. No wake up lake to Stanton, no wake down lake to past Halls launch ramp.
I still strongly dislike wake board boats. They tear up the water which makes smaller boats very uncomfortable to be in.
Have never seen so many jet skis. A lot like mosquitos, just want to swat them. Unlike the larger black fly wake board boats that you want to mash with a fly swatter.
Happy fishing - hope this helps.
