BOAT SHOW

With a 12’ beam and dry weight (without the trailer) at nearly 20,000 lbs, you won’t be seeing any pimped out Escalades with an Oversize Load banner towing this gargantuan to Powell…perhaps there’s hope…

But then again, anyone with a spare 3/4 million disposable income and the bucks to fill a 250 gal gas tank can certainly afford to pay an entourage for hauling services…
Or own an F550

Or own an F550
The weight of that boat is well within the capacity of the new 3500s.

And that Regal has been out for several years. I have yet to see one (or hear of one) in the wild. I'm surprised that the dealer in UT would pony up for one. There can't be much of a market for that.....

On edit, the above sounds more snotty than intended. Just an observation.

Port Jeff area? Sq
Quick Port Jeff story: It's '62 or '63....we usually boat south shore, Islip, Bayshore. Uncle Ronny says let's do Port Jeff! We raft up for the night, anchor bow and stern, lift up the outboards, and in the morning we are still securely rafted, but high and dry on the sand, as the tide had gone out. Ronny didn't know the extent of the tides, and we were the laughing stock on the beach. Never saw Dad look so red in the face, waiting for the tide to come in....longest what, 6 hours, in history? 😸

I priced one and it came to $850,000.00. Holy cow. Cannot fathom how someone could afford that. Peter

There’s an *** for every seat… That was my first thought, I had images of the blunt nosed ugly boats from earlier in the thread and that reminded me of a true monstrosity of a wake boat (butt ugly) at last years outdoor show, but this boat is far from ugly. I like looking at most all boats, from the simple aluminum fishing boat to this swanky ride, I’m surprised that this boat goes for $850K, if I was asked how much I thought a boat like this would cost I would have guessed $1.2-$1.5M.

I am a little surprised that a boat of this size is gasoline powered and not diesel powered…a couple of diesel Volvo D4’s would power this boat with much better fuel economy than gasoline and toss in a diesel northern lights or panda generator in lieu of the gas westerbeke 7.5Kw and the run time would also be enhanced, and with diesel power the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning is all but eliminated. On the sister boat the LS36 I see that there is an optional 8Kw diesel panda genny. LS36 Having the generator on board will run the grill and AC / Heat to make for comfortable days & nights on the water. From a family aspect there’s plenty of amenities to keep everyone happy. Just a fantastic pleasure boat.

As to the wake features, if that’s what folks want to do and they’re out on the water having fun and making memories that’s great, it’s not my idea of a good time but I love seeing happy people. And the issue here can be people, the un courteous kind. I remember as a kid out on the Salton Sea fishing with my Mom and Dad it was the water skiers that my Dad would get angry with, we’d be out there all by ourselves and a boat towing a skier would come from far away and the proceed to ski around us which would make for choppy water and the fish would quit biting, man my Dad would get pissed. I’ve experienced the same thing with folks in pontoon boats seemingly making laps around where I’m fishing in an out of the way place, I’ve also had people on PWC’s start riding around my boat one guy even stopped with feet of me to hangout-in the middle of the lake. I’ve also had wake boats make pass after pass near me with their super loud music-usually crappy music to boot, which makes me have to move somewhere else. On the flip side, I’ve had these same types of boaters be very courteous and only come by now and again, waving each time, which I don’t mind since we all have to share the lake and my home lakes are tiny compared with LP.

But people being people you get the kind that just don’t care that they’re messing up your enjoyment of the lake and are belligerent, this is what leads to rule making. Speaking of which there is a growing amount of legislation governing wake boat operations, the best of which are developed through true scientific research to mitigate the effects of the wakes generated by these wake boats such as churning up the bottom, shore erosion etc. I can only imagine what the effect of a wake boat would be back in a cove let alone a 38’ wake boat. In the end I suspect that like most things a small percentage of the wake boaters will cause rules to be put in place to mitigate their impact to fellow boaters and the lake itself and will probably be an overstep. Perhaps something like the rules on Lake Mohave in that 8 mile stretch from Willow Beach up to Hoover Dam where there is a seasonal restriction, Labor Day to Memorial Day, on boats to only have 10 hp and on certain days no motorized boats. And as with most rule making it will not be enough for the proponents and far too much for the rest.

At the end of the day, while maybe this 38’ Regal is not your cup of tea, it is a very nice boat with great amenities.

PLEASE don't give the manufacturers any ideas.:) Prices of new boats (any any flavor) are already out of control.

I'm also surprised diesel power hasn't become more prominent in these types of boats. I know that Pavati offered a Duramax option for a while, but I don't think that Nautique/MC/Malibu have ever done that. I wonder why? Concern of the ability to re-fuel on the water (I can't think of a lake we frequent outside of Powell that offers on-water diesel sales). Or maybe the same emissions struggles that have challenged the rest of the industry?

I was wondering as well where they would put a DEF on a marine application. Half my truck is DEF if you look underneath.
Sorry to be so dense, but some folks who enjoy to point that out here, ;) already get that.....what is a 'DEF' in this construct???

Unreal and from Regal? Oh well, can't wait for some inconsiderate crew to come to the back of a cove while I'm clinging to a small beach in my houseboat and knock me around with this overgrown POS. That will be truly awesome! The surfer in tow will probably give a wave or a thumbs up and smile as they go by 20 feet off my transom oblivious to everyone else like most of the rest of them. Yeah, the wake wave of this monster is going to make that ongoing experience especially delicious. Sigh
You guys act like this hasn't been happening since Lake Powell first floated houseboats...Those houseboat jerks have been around a heck of a lot longer than the wake surf guys. Just sayin'...

...If I had the dollars, that 38 footer would be mine!

Houseboat jerks? Hmmmm
Hehehe...Great Post, Todd.... (y) (y)

Perhaps one of the things we can all agree on here at WW......is that 'jerks' can arrive in any number of......vessels/hulls/uniforms/etc......;)

I'd also suggest that another thing we Wordlings agree upon is: It ain't the vessel/hull/gun/ fishing pole/ranger....whatever.....it's the person behind it that counts.

Like my (Homelite) Dad said; Treat everyone as you'd like to be treated.....(I miss him....;))

Disclaimer:

Nothing in this post is political in any way. Just an old man pontificating, and perhaps occasionally drooling....well..............depends......;)

I'd imagine from a watersports perspective, being behind a diesel engine wouldn't be very enjoyable.
Fair point although the last several diesels I’ve owned have no odor. And with pretty much all surf boats having fresh air exhaust the fumes are pushed out well behind the rider.

Thanks, Guess I was........deaf to that.......so many new initials, IMHO...... ;)
To be more precise, DEF is just the fluid. When someone talks about the bottom of the truck covered they are using DEF interchangeably as the EPA emissions requirements on modern day diesels. I have no idea if those same requirements follow off road use or would be required in a boat.

I talked with a friend of mine this evening who is in the know shall we say on current diesel emissions requirements for marine Diesel engines in CA. He told me that “leisure” craft must meet tier 3 emissions which can easily be accomplished with an EGR valve and anti puff strategy. For those unfamiliar anti puff means that the ECU will not add full fuel even when the throttle is placed in full until the boost pressure increases enough to keep from creating a black cloud of smoke. He went to tell me that the biggest advancement in emission reduction in Diesel engines is multi pulse high pressure injection. So a DPF (diesel particulate filter) and SCR (selectable catalyst reduction / DEF) are not required on leisure diesel powered vehicles.

Additionally here is an article on what’s coming for gasoline powered outboards in ca beginning in 2027. If you’re in ca and are thinking of repowering your boat it appears that would be a good thing to do in the next year or so. According to the article I/O and stern drives have already been impacted by requiring closed loop fuel injection and catalytic converters. I know that only certain models of Yamaha jet boats can be sold in ca due to this last requirement, I do not think any of the FSH (center console) models are for sale in ca.
