Wow, that made me sad to see it go down. Following the smokestacks back from Last Chance in a storm on a jet ski, they saved me a great deal of stress. I have memorized the route much better since then, but still, I got verklempt to see them go down. And weird, I would have assumed they would drop straight down on themselves like most building demos you see.
No danger of damage to nearby buildings. It takes far more planning to do vertical drop. Spreading the remains over a larger area will make it easier to haul away(not as tall/complex of a pile).

I’m impressed at how relatively quickly the NSG shut down and are going into demolition.

the sooner the site is demolished and cleaned up the sooner they can get the next things hooked up. most of the remaining value of that location is all the electrical infrastructure and distribution lines for the juice.

The existing plant acreage might be able to accommodate up to 50 megawatts of solar some 5-7 years from now? Pretty much a drop in the bucket regarding the big picture of the western electrical grid.

Expansion to a larger footprint is possible but likely to meet certain resistance.

Time will tell what opportunities are seized but no doubt the energy output for the site will never, ever come close to that of NGS.
