Antelope Update

I just went back and read JFRCalifornia's analysis. He figures a water level of 3,525 in February 2022. If James T. Kirk read a depth of 23 feet in front of the Antelope gas docks, that means we will have to deal with a rock spire, wearing an earthmover tire, sticking 12 feet out of the water in the middle of the busiest narrow choke point in the lake, only 9 months from now. That spire is going to become am underwater hazard to navigation (a whale) a lot sooner than that.

Can everybody envision that nightmare? It's not like that spire can be dynamited.

My wife and I used to entertain ourselves watching Wahweap traffic from the shaded bench at the Wahweap Viewpoint on Lake Shore Dr., as Aramark rentals blew through the Wakeless Zone at Anchovy Point and past other boats, obliviously charging over the whales. Soon, we might be able to view a similar madness while sitting at the Antelope restaurant.

It sure looks like Antelope Marina is going to have to reconfigure the docks down lake from the restaurant, gas docks included. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of other options. That's going to be a monumental project.

Any feedback/suggestions from anyone on a recent launch at Antelope using valet? Have used the public side many times but never the valet service. Will be there in several days with 21' runabout.

thanks

Not sure what you’re asking for but the valet is the only way to go. Just pull in and be patient and they’ll launch you. Tip em well.

A $40 charge is good for 1 launch and 1 retrieve. They charge by the trailer, so 2 PWCs cost the same as 1 boat. While you are on the lake, your rig is parked in the Dry Storage Yard at Antelope, with 24 hour security, and behind locked gates at night.

Turn in at the first opening past the fee station when entering the Antelope Marina property, go through the yellow pipe gates, and the Valet office is in a trailer on the left with a sliding glass door, right at the stop sign.

Pay your $40, give them your keys, put on your life vest, and they'll put you in the water. Call on cell phone or marine radio when you get close to the Wakeless Zone on your return and your rig will be waiting to pull you out of the water by the time you make it over to the Valet ramp. Please remember to tip!

Couldn't be easier.

Showed up at 1:30 pm last Wednesday for a launch, I was 12th in line (almost all the way out to the oil road). Estimate was +2 hr wait and with temps 3 digits left without launching.

Came back next morning at 6:30 am and was 1st in line (they start launching at 7 am). By 7 am there were 4 more trailers behind me. Note: the office was still posted “mask required “.

Launch went smoothly.

What is an appropriate tip? I'll be in a 27' cruiser with triple axle trailer. Launching one morning and returning a couple days later.

$10 or $20 sounds fair, but if you can afford more, I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Naturally, a good tip when launching probably goes a long way toward insuring better service when loading up on the return.

They are swamped, like never before. With all the houseboats out of Dry Storage, I heard, this morning, that there are approximately 600 truck and trailer combos in the secured Valet Parking. 600! They are working their butts off, and they are short handed to boot. Valet Attendant is one of the 56 job titles accepting applications on the Antelope Marina website.

Thank you! Appreciate the tip...tip as well as the yellow water "whale" tip. I am sure they're crazy busy at Antelope.

I was told by an Antelope manager that the Antelope Valet ramp could launch and retrieve houseboats down to a lake level of 3,550. Smaller boats, maybe even lower, but the ramp was blasted out of solid rock in the main channel, and it does end in a cliff.

JFRCalifornia's estimate of the water level by the end of the season will, most likely, leave Antelope Valet unable to operate. The manager I talked to spoke of adding additional slips to accommodate houseboats that will end up being up being unretrievable by the end of the season.

At Wahweap they have the option of using steel mats once they come to the end of their concrete ramps. Antelope does not have that option.

Going to be using the valet ramp this weekend. Anybody have up to date tips on best times to launch and retrieve with shortest wait times? Thanks

Here is an update for those that are interested. The valet on Thursday 6/17 wasn’t too bad at 9:00 am about 8 cars in line. Launched in about 45 minutes. At 7:00 on Sunday it was extremely busy between launches and retrievals. We sat on the water for close to 2 hours waiting.

It seems everyone has the same idea to get to the valet when it first opens. If you want to be front of line you probably need to get there at 6:00 and the latest 6:30.
