Algae Bloom

Anyone out there know anything about this algae bloom in the main channel I've been hearing about? Headed down in a few weeks and curious if anyone thinks it's a real issue. We deal with some pretty bad algae up here on the reservoirs in Idaho in late summer.

This was an issue last year. People were confusing green water with an algea bloom, there is huge difference between the two events. Attached screen is an algea bloom. You will not see a bloom in the main channel you will see them in the back coves and canyons.

"The term "green water" refers to the visual state of water tinted green due to suspended, free-floating microscopic algae. An "algae bloom" (specifically a Harmful Algal Bloom or HAB) is the underlying event causing this tint—a massive, rapid overgrowth of algae or cyanobacteria (blue-green algae)."

I hate to say this, but there were algal blooms in the main channel last year. We saw them between 7-mile and Ticaboo, mostly toward the inside curve of bends where the water was still. It was not green water, it was blue-green algae just like your picture. This was present in late July.

When is the monsoon season in Arizona I think I hear it's from Jun through September. Does anyone know the area it covers. Like does it cover the southwest. Will it provide needed rainfall for the southwest and help Lake Powell and the reservoirs above it. Just curious.
