Algae Bloom/Toxins Antelope Canyon

All heat related Algae are worse this year, in virtually every Lake I have seen. Not sure why. When you do have these blooms, they create fish die offs as well. The lake I live on just experienced Golden Algae bloom, water turned Diaper Brown and pretty much killed all the fish, especially Shad and Bass. This lake has never experienced this Algae before.

Question, I don't really remember reading or experiencing a lot of Algae blooms on Powell, is this new?

Very little run off, lack of monsoons, and the heat is setting it up for the algae... However in Wahweap, in my opinion and a few others the fact that we no longer have the aerators that actually made a difference.. They disappeared lat fall and since that time we have had an issue.... It is unclear at this time if it is a NPS problem or a Aramark one however I am hoping to find out and maybe do something about it because it's just nasty!! I have attached a few photos from around the marina, just open them up and see for yourself...

We were camped in a bay just across from Halls marina, right off the main channel. One morning after an extremely calm and peaceful night, the algae bloom was pretty apparent. We also went back into Lost Eden and it was a little worse in there, especially toward the back of the canyon as many have reported. But I was surprised to see it right off the main channel where we had our houseboat anchored up against shore.1755121982854.png
