These mentioned rules are very relevant to Lake Powell boaters and provide a good refresher to those that know the rules and great information for those that don't know the "official" rules of the water.

If, heaven forbid, you ever have a serious insurance claim, these are the rules that the law and Insurance will use when investigating the incident.

From a different life, several of the BFM ROE rules basically encapsulate these rules albeit with slightly different and more succinct wording:
  1. The least maneuverable has the right of way.
  2. Clear to the right but don't cross flightpaths to do so.
Also remember that when assigning blame most everywhere, the law and insurance companies give the lion's share of the blame, regardless of rules, to the person that had the "last possible chance" aka "last clear chance" to avoid the collision.

The one thing that gets under my skin is the lack of people that do not drive on the right side of the lake. More times than not you come around a corner and there is some *** hat on the wrong side of the lake running wide open.

Haha, I really like this part in the link.....Under Boating at Lake of the Ozarks.........
Situational awareness, caution, and common sense go a long ways towards boating safely.

Because 'common sense" is so UNcommon any more.
