Yes, this group is terrific! I’m glad to help in any way! Everyone has to live through a few good lake Powell midnight wind storms to know the power she has. The best (worst) ones are when they’re not in the forecast at all. Just wind from seemingly out of the blue that makes a mess of everything at 2 AM and requires lots of action!

Anyway, they suck but they keep you humble…just like slow fishing days.

Lake Powell is a joy at any level!

I remember (while shore camping) seeing some clouds in the distance, and maybe hearing distant thunder while sitting under our sun shades on shore. We felt a little breeze, and thought that we should think about taking down the sun shades. Before we could stand up and get to the poles the first big gust came in and demolished our sun shades. After that we learned to take them down before the first breezes. The thunderstorms on Lake Powell can be very sudden and violent.

I would have to guess every single person that has ever spent more than three nights in a row has experienced the W word! And I would even venture had shade tents or some sort of equipment ruined?

Oh yes, the Lake Powell wind! The lake can go from being wonderful to miserable so quickly. Spent many a night listening to waves crashing and worrying about the boat, and being pelted by sand in the tent! Wondering why the hell I was subjecting myself to the misery. Then the next day is spectacular and you seem to forget. The trip we did mid March this year was the only only only time I’ve ever been to Lake Powell that it wasn’t windy one time!!!
