5-Day Itinerary - First Trip Lake Powell - from Waheep/Antelope Point area

Welcome! Hopefully, you'll get some great answers. Be aware that 5 days to explore Lake Powell is somewhat like trying to explore Disney's Orlando properties in a single day. There are great things that you simply won't have time to see.

Hey Lacey,
Are you guys going to be in your own boat? Houseboat? Shore camping? Are you starting out of the Wahweap area? Bullfrog? The answers to those questions will probably dictate how the folks with a lot of Powell experience will respond.

I asked the same question as you a few months ago and received an overwhelming amount of tips and information. The real takeaway for all the responses I received was "SLOW DOWN", don't try to see it all. Find an area and take your time to explore it and enjoy it. That's exactly what we ended up doing and we had a GREAT time.

Yeah, the type of boat being used makes ALL the difference in any suggestion you will get around your request.

This assuming you'll have a houseboat (with smaller boat), but it may somewhat apply regardless. A great first time trip for four nights (in my opinion) is the area from Rock Creek to Forbidding Canyon. Anchor in Friendship or even Dungeon. Spend a 1/2 to full day exploring Rock Creek in detail. Plenty of arches, caves, and scenery. Some good fishing too. Of course visit Forbidding to see Rainbow Bridge. In between your camp in friendship/Dungeon and Forbidding are many excellent canyons to explore and Dangling Rope Marina to refuel and resupply. I would recommend Wetherill and Cathedral Canyons for sure. 5 days isn't much, but this is doable and a great area.

Things I wanted to see our first time:

1. Antelope Canyon
2. Navajo Canyon
3. The Dam
4. Labyrinth Canyon
5. Rainbow Bridge
6. Cathedral Canyon

if you got this much done you’d be way ahead of the game.

Dont forget, Horseshoe Bend is also a quick 3 min car drive south of Page and well worth the short hike to see.
