We made our annual spring trip to Lake Powell and fished the 23rd, 24th, and 25th. This was my 40th year of fishing at Lake Powell. We camped and fished in Last Chance canyon using only 3 1/2 inch tube jigs. The weather and the fishing was outstanding. We fished with several different colors, even blue and they all worked. The total count was, 101 smallmouth, 4 crappie, 1 striper, 2 sunfish, and 4 largemouth. Mack Sorensen of St George Ut caught a 5 lbs Largemouth and the next day Dave (Bajatails) Morrow of Calvin Ok caught a 7 lbs Largemouth, by far the biggest any of us had ever caught at Powell. Gordon Lehman of Henderson Nv caught a 3 pound smallmouth and Bill Suddeth of Henderson Nv managed to catch lots of smallmouth bass. The 2 big LMB were caught on white tube jigs. Maybe a coincidence, but maybe not. I did find 3 inch shad in the bellies of some of the fish I cleaned. No wind to speak of. A great trip all around.
