2 Stroke Fan Sound

Hi folks. Don’t know if this place to ask this question. I have a two stoke Merc and noticed a fan or blower type sound today when I turned motor off. Noise in the engine. I don’t think a two stroke has a fan. Any thoughts?

Optimax? They have a compressor as I understand. A common source of trouble with generally reliable motors......

Is it an optimax? What year and size is it? Have you taken the shroud off to better identify the source of the sound?

The Optimax is a mercury. I have a mercury 2 stroke, but it is not an optimax. Apparently, there were tons of issues with the compressor on the optimax especially late 90's to early 2000's models....
