Where's the channel

I have seen some posts about the shallow water off the hay stacks where is the main channel to avoid it? It's seems to me it's close to the house boats at halls but can't remember going next week and would like to avoid it if we can thanks

There is photo from the air that shows it well somewhere on the forum.
But I'm out the door for a lunch date. I forgot who posted it.

There are other issues with where the main channel is. Going up lake from BF the channel markers are no longer over the channel. In places they are off a hundred yards or so. This is most evident near the tapestry wall and in GHB. It seems that as the lake lowered the slack was not taken out of the cables which allowed the buoys to drift.

Be very very careful going into GHB. The green channel marker at 117a is within 50 feet of a rock spire that is 1-2 feet below the surface. We narrowly missed it on Saturday on the way to the floating toilet. On the way back to camp we slowly approached it and were able to see where at least two people had hit it.

Here's a couple of GoogleEarth images taken on 8-24-04 when the lake was at 3574, about 5 feet higher than today. You can clearly see the lurking subsurface obstacles...

Thanks for the pictures that will help a bunch I will give a report when we get back

As others have noted, anywhere outside the main channel is risky at this low water level as none of us are used to what is there. I personally experienced "near misses" in Warm Creek and in Gunsight the past couple of days.

In Gunsight I cruised right over a large area about a foot deep while on a jetski that was not visible entering the canyon, but very visible on the way out and showed signs of several hits. If I would have been in our Stern drive boat would have been ugly.

In Warm Creek the aerial photos I took a few weeks ago helped a lot but still very different from the water level view and took some navigating to avoid shallow areas even though I knew they were there.

Personally I don't recommend out of channel speeds much above idle until you have checked the area out thoroughly.

Just to illustrate one problem in Warm Creek Bay (there are probably others), here's a couple of images taken at lake level 3574, or about 5 feet higher than today. Clearly there's some lurking subsurface hazards...

This isn't a great close-up photo, but this rock you barely see is about 2 feet out of the water as of 4/20 and is right in the middle of Gunsight Canyon in the large bay at the entrance - somewhere you are probably not expecting to see a rock. Further back in the canyon, there is a large flat area about 1' underwater directly where a boat would normally travel heading into the canyon. Be careful out there!
