Where is winter?

Merry Christmas Everyone! We have been asking the same thing ourselves. Here in Hanksville, 5:30 Christmas morning, it is 55 degrees with a warm Southern wind.

Last week, I drove past Blue Mesa Reservoir in Colorado and there is a little snow up there (7500' elevation) but the lake was virtually Ice free and there were boats on the water. Very unlike winter conditions.

Hate to say, but I think bad times are coming soon for Powell. :(

Merry Christmas. Gloria just picked fresh lettuce from the garden in Bayfield.
How funny as my lettuce is growing everywhere here in Hesperus ! Same for swiss chard and peas lol... However... We have seen this many times before and lots of moisture in the forecast and looks like feet of snow for the mountains this next week. I have seen many winters start like this (oh btw we are 5 days into winter lol) only to be SICK of snow by the end of February. Relax everyone...

I’m always optimistic, and yes things hopefully will turn around…but current conditions are pretty much unprecedented. There is a brief cooldown (still above average) then more warm weather in the 14 day forecast. I just watched KSL weather, they said the Olympic trials were being moved from Utah to New York because of a lack of snow. They also reported 9 of warmest 10 years on record have been in the last 13 years. I’m not sure what is normal anymore.

I have lived out west since 1982. I have learned there are a couple of things I have noticed about the weather here in western Corado. One thing is that at least once a year we have weather that is two months displaced. This has happened every year that I can remember. Right now, we are having October weather in December. Another thing I have noticed is that worrying about how cold or warm it is or how little snow we are getting never changes anything. I'm a glass is half full kind of guy and try to be optimistic. I personally am enjoying being able to get some outside work done while it is nice. We cannot control the weather or the amount of snow we get for water for irrigating our crops and to boat. swim and fish in. The only thing we are in control of is how we use it.
