Where all the Stripers at? Not in the South.

Took the boat out Sunday at State Line. Went into Lone Rock area and couldn't find the shad that seem to have been there for months. Marked some sparce scatterred stripers but they were not hungry, maybe from the full moon. Tried bait and even the Dude hair jig that I normally troll on leadcore when all else fails but got no attention. Left and went to the dam which was a ghost town. The graph was empty other than a few bass sitting on edges. Decided to make a run to Navajo. No stripers at the mouth. Tried bass at the first turn and nothing. Trolled back a ways and started picking up smallies on the hair jig on points, so stopped and salvaged the trip catching several smallies dropshotting a 6th Sense strobe minnow that we just started carrying at the shop. Unfortuately I forgot to throw the extra Strobe Minnows in the boat after rigging the first and once a fish took my bait that was it. Had to switch to blue ribbed swim baits with tungston ball jig heads, which got bit but the smallies would short bite those or pop off quickly. Nothing else seemed to work, including the Ned rig. Dan's report on the die-off of stripers seems to be accurate. We did see one fish swim up to the boat and check us out when we were bass fishing but that seems like it.

lol... die off is not the problem it is natural and cycles to keep balance. It is just fishing and especially in the south it can be tough during the winter months. 99% of my trips will put hundreds of stripers in the boat by day and in 2022 I made the south trip as BF was unlaunchable (I fish often on both ends of the lake) and over 3 days we boated 5 SMB and 1 striper. Long 3 days. 2 of 3 days a month later was exactly the same then day 3 was on fire as I went to main channel and fished totally different than the norm. You just gotta find them sometimes...

I fished from Lone Rock to Wahweep Bay Monday and Wednesday. Found schools of stripers and jigged up 11 on Monday and 14 on Wednesday. All I wanted to fillet! I could have caught twice as many easily on Wednesday. I got one nice 25 inch channel cat jigging on Monday.
