reports seem a bit sporadic right now...maybe this will help someone...
We hit the lake on Saturaday and Sunday (10/4, 10/5). Saturday was a doozy. Sitting at the top of the State Line ramp looking at the bay full of white-caps caused us to question our sanity. The theory was that Wahweap would be the worst of it, and once we got into the canyon, it wouldn't be that bad -- let's head for Navajo and see what happens.
Yikes.
the main channel was rough. The section from the dam to Antelope wasn't horrible. The section from Antelope to Navajo was. Those were big waves. I'm glad the only issue was a broken latch on my under-console tackle storage. That darn wave just disappeared under me, and we hit that next wave pretty hard. I was glad when we made that turn into Navajo.
The water in Navajo wasn't a big deal -- the wind blew all day, but at least it wasn't white-capping all day. The fishing? Well.....we struggled. There are a LOT of fish back there, but they just wouldn't hit. We were mainly trolling. I did best on a big articulated crawfish-colored bugger on my fly rod.

The ride back to Wahweap later that afternoon was MUCH better than the morning ride. In fact, the roughest water we saw on the ride back was in Navajo -- all the surf boats looked to Navajo to get out of the wind, just like we did.
Sunday was a GREAT day to be out on the lake. Flat water. Calm winds. Willing fish.
Instead of spending half our day driving, we just boated straight across from State Line and started fishing the points near the Castle Rock Cut. We immediately started getting smallmouth. Whenever we'd get in 10' of water, we'd hook up. Lot's of action. We would also pick up a striper here and there -- I was able to spoon up a few stripers as well -- anyone going out looking for stripers shouldn't have to go far from State Line to get them -- see the attached pic.
Like every trip -- I just wish we could have stayed longer. I guess we'll just have to start planning the next trip.
