I have not been on Wayne's Words lately because I have been on a fishing vacation in Canada. We flew into Bella Bella, British Columbia and met up with my wife's (Charlene) brother Carlos who has a 50 Meridian power boat. He spends the summer traveling the inter coastal waterway with his wife Raquel. They fish a lot while enjoying the great scenery and cool weather. This was not our first fishing trip, but it was one of the best trips for great scenery and fantastic fishing while the US is suffering from abnormal intensive heat conditions. Our plan is to spend 3 weeks enjoying the sites and catching some fish as we travel. We have had great fishing so far and I will give you our fish report from the first week.

We spent the first night at Shearwater Marina and then headed out for our fishing adventure. We live on the big boat and fish from an 11-foot Dingy just big enough for four people. We move on to a new location each day. Here is the report from day 2 where we camped in a protected cove in Simonds Group Islands. We caught a great number of fish midday while dropping 6-8 inch heavy spoons to the bottom in 50 to 125 feet of water. We jigged for bottom fish similar to my striper technique while fishing the bottom of Lake Powell. We had success catching rockfish, including quill back, red snapper, and China rockfish. We also got some flounder, greenling, yellowtail and a wide variety of other participants. It was a very fun fishing experience while catching a bunch of fish and enjoying the cool temperature and beautiful scenery. We released most of the fish since we caught so many and still have another two weeks of fishing left before we return back to Page, AZ.

Here is a video from our fishing trip where we got into a bunch of Ling Cod. The average size of these fish of these fish is 20 to 30 inches. I guessed the weight of these fish to be between 10 and 30 pounds. We did not weigh any fish because we did not have the room or the time to weigh them when many other fish were waiting on the bottom for us to drop another spoon so we could reel in one more trophy.

Take a look. Enjoy the experience! Wayne
