Hey guys,
I am heading back to LP in a few days, this time with my bro and dad (dad's first trip ever). We will be doing the usual and putting in at Wahweap the afternoon of the 25-26th. I had a very good trip with the slurps and chovies back at the end of June, mostly around MM25. I've been reading on here daily to get an idea of where to go this time. Thinking of hitting Navajo the evening of the 25th to see what we can see, and drop chovies past the islands. Then, heading back up lake towards MM25 in hopes of finding some boils early. Anyone have any other recommendations/hot spots right now for stripers? I would really like to get Dad on some boils since he has never experienced that kind of excitement before. Anyways, thanks guys and we will report back.

Not sure if you are here fishing now or not - Boils in Warm Creek, Gunsight main channel and canyon and the channel between buoy 13 and 15.

Just got home from Wahweap. We were there from Saturday til today. This morning as the sun was just hitting the water, OMG was it beautiful, the water was glass and not another boat for the two hours I was out. Sorry, I didn't have my camera with me. Anyway as I was heading from Wahweap to the dam, I noticed alot of splashes near the shore in the bay just south of the Wahweap slips. Well as I pulled in to check it out , the entire bay came alive with slurps, jumps and small boils. It was everywhere all at once. I was able to catch many stripers very quickly. They were mostly dinks but in very good shape and fought like crazy for such little guys. They stayed active on and off, for an hour or so, then slowed down and finally stopped all together.
I found it interesting that they would all stop for 5 to 10 minutes and then at the same time the entire bay would start up again. It was as if there was some sort of trigger that got them all going?
Wish you all could have been there to see it, it was incredible to witness and super fun to fish and actually catch them as fast as I could get one off and throw out again. Go get some!!

The trigger was the SHAD!
There was probably a huge ball of shad under the stripers. The school of stripers would go deep to ambush the ball of shad and drive them to the surface or shallows, eat all they could then go back down, find them and repeat.

A lot of fun when that happens!

It was a riot. I get what you are saying, but the weird thing was that the entire bay started simultaneously, then slowed down, paused for a short time, then they all started again across the entire area at the exact same time. This area is at least a mile across. I guess they were all on the same schedule? It was interesting to witness and did I mention a RIOT to fish.

RATS! I left before the sun came up this morning and headed to Warm Creek through the CRCut. We turned the corner toward the channel and hit a huge wind storm. We did not see any boil until 9 am when the wind quit. I wish I had gone the other way. Boils are the best.

We were in WarmCreek yesterday. Enjoyed feeding the catfish Cheetos . Haven't broke out the rods yet, but am having a fantastic time with great friends. Yet to see a boil. Made it to mm 23 yesterday. Going to venture from Wahweap to Rainbow on Thursday. To fish, does it take a az license or a Utah license?

A Utah resident license is all that is needed to fish all of Lake Powell. If you live in AZ then a AZ license with a UT stamp ($8) is all that is needed. If a non-resident of UT or AZ then a UT non-res license is all that is needed to fish in both UT and AZ.
