Greetings,
This will be our 4th trip to Powell and am going with a new family this year and we are tossing around different methods of pulling 2 boats. In the past I’ve have pulled double by tying off the front heavier boat with a Y setup to each rear cleat on the house boat so I can adjust how the front boat tracks. I then tie the second lighter boat behind about 10-15’ behind the first boat so it helps cut a wake for the lighter boat. Their past method was to tie one boat off one cleat and the other boat off the other cleat with different length ropes. We are worried about cracking the gel coat on their new surf boat and with method 1 and with method 2 there is a possibility of scuffing up the boats with the ropes especially on turns.
Any thoughts on what others have found works best for double boats?
Thanks!!!

Are you concerned with cracking the Gel around the bow eye? If so, we have pulled our Wake/ Surf boat many times, never had an issue. We always have someone on the back deck when we slow down or turn sharply to watch the boats being towed.

We have used method 2 for years with no problems. We will sometimes even attach 2 jet skis in tandem behind each boat. We've never had the boats or skis touch. Wide turns and someone always watching from back deck when stopping or slowing. We do not hook up until after the cut and always unhook before heading into the side canyons. If we need to stop we always keep pressure on the tow ropes by letting the houseboat idle in gear. If you go to neutral boats and skis go everywhere.

We are also solidly in favor of method 2. Have towed 2 boats this way for over 20 years. As noted, avoid hard turns and sudden stops, but otherwise we've not had any issues. Our long rope is 75' and we shorten our short line to about 40 -45' to tow 2 - 21' bass boats

For 35 years, always used Method 2. Never a problem. If you are concerned about the Bow Eye, use a quarter inch piece of steel as a backing plate inside the bow. I have seen a bow eye pulled out don't know what the guy was doing.

Not concerned about the bow eye more concerned about towing the little boat behind the surf boat off the back cleats or ski eye. We’ll go with method 2. Thanks everyone, gettin’ STOKED!!! Whoohoo!!!
