SB-105 ｜ EVERGREEN INTERNATIONAL


i'm in the austin area. daughter lives in bend, or. got a brother in ventura, ca area. i drive up to bend with a lot of fishing and golf gear each summer, usually stopping to fish powell. i throw topwaters 99.9999999% of the time, wherever i fish! i live for the explosion! lol
last summer i hit bend for 10 days, then headed for ventura. stopped at tackle warehouse in san luis obisbo and got ANOTHER okuma helios spinning reel, 2 azuma top lures, and splurged on an evergreen sb 105 ($18!!!!) all in clear finish, which is also what i throw 99% of the time. for some reason clear outperforms any other finish by a large margin.
so...at $18 i was too scared to throw the dang thing til 2 weeks ago!

it's 4 1/8" 9/16oz it casts a mile. walks easier than anything. but what also sets it apart is that lip in the front. it's not real huge, but it adds some plop noise, which is another attractor, while it's walking. it gets more action than my other tops, by far. i'm throwiing it 98% of the time. the other 2% are other tops i USED to use, just to confirm what i'm seeing. today my buddy was throwing the azuma and had one blow up. i had 21. similar numbers yesterday.
i'm telling you, it's shocking the action/reaction i'm getting! just ordered 2 more 105's, and one the next size bigger. all in clear. gonna give one to my buddy, who's name also is bill, lol.
i have at least 50 yo zuri, heddon, azuma, IMA skimmer, sammy, etc...i wish i had discovered the sb 105 and spent all that money on it instead.
no, i dont work for evergreen, lol. retired teacher...
i did remove the middle treble cuz it got too hard to get all the hooks out of the fish, and i got stuck real good in my hand. i put trokar wide gap trebles on the other 2. i just think 3 trebles on that size lure is too much. somebody here try one and let me know how it works for you. gonna try to hit powell this summer. cant wait!!!!
 
i saw that price, but they are out of stock on the clear...free shipping at $59! that's easy to reach, lol. just make sure you get at least 2 in clear. a guy told me about clear topwaters at the ramp once, and it quadrupled my numbers the next day! heddon spook jr. some time later i discovered yo zuri at cabelas...doubled the heddon numbers! azuma makes an outstanding lure as well, and i like the ima skimmer. all those get a grade of 95. this dang sb 105 gets a 100!
i can only imagine how this thing will work when the top action gets going in the heat of the summer here on lake bastrop! i hope to hit powell this summer as well. right now at lake georgetown the water is a bit chilly, and there isnt much top activity. i can wade out to the bottom of my knees, and it's not too bad. the other day it was 39* and i'm wading and casting in shorts and a windbreaker. i'm out every day so i kinda get used to it...unless it gets a bit windy. funny thing is, i just got a backpack (instead of carrying my usual tackle box...1st backpack i've ever owned! $9.88 at walmart) and it doubles as extra protection from the wind, as i usually am casting with the wind. also use 17lb nanofil. it casts farther than anything! used it on the gulf cost on all kinds of fish with zero problems. get the dark green. it's the only line i've used for at least 6 or 7 years, if not longer. the extra casting distance was stunning the very 1st time i used it. i've got several huge spools of it, lol.
another great top lure if you're downsizing is the yamamoto tate pencil, the 3 inch model. you might ask gary why he doesnt offer them anymore. try ebay. i have about 20. all the colors work well, especially silver. but i think the clear lures must fool the fish visually. i dont think they can tell what size the lure is, and i get a lot of different sized fish grabbing it...more than usual, anyway...
i should try to unload my other lures on ebay or the parking lot at bass pro, lol... my gosh, the collection i've got, most of it brand new...
funny how i can try one of the other brands mentioned; throw it 10 times,get no response...tie on the sb 105, and boom! happened this morning again. started at the ramp. slud over to the right. nothing. tied on sb 105, first cast, boom! a fish hit it 7 times on that retrieve! incredibly exciting! didnt hook him up, but cast that direction again and he hit it again! to me, a topwater strike is like half a fish anyway. it's a thrill!
there IS one lure i will throw that isnt a top. the sebile puncher. it's a jerk bait that will only go down a coupla feet, and will rise when you stop retrieving. the color is white liner. the online pics dont do it justice. under water it's white with a dash of pink on the sides. i can catch em with it, so i use it sometimes; like, every other trip. i have a lot of confidence in it, and it suits the way i fish. i gotta be very active. i cant sit there soaking a worm. gotta be real active.

With all that extra hardware you boat must be 100 lbs heavier!!!😀 I would be happy to take some off your hands - 20-30 should do!! Seriously - post them on the yard sale site - ask 1/2 price and I bet you will be lighter very quickly!!

i usually take 3 combos, maybe 20 lures, 19 of which are topwaters. been bank fishing for the past month after 400 rounds of golf in a year and a half. i go back and forth between the 2 sports.
i just might have to post some lures! i'd like for them to be used by somebody!
 
I'm a top water fanatic too. The sb 105 is a great lure, currently my favorite walking bait is the river2sea rover. It is very easy to walk and has a distinct sound that drives fish nuts.. I also throw a lobina Rico popper a lot when fish are aggressive and a yellow magic popper for a little more finesse presentation both of these poppers are able to walk easily and kind of give you the best of both worlds(they walk and pop)lol
 
so many great/outstanding lures, thanks to computer design, etc. adding some ribs on the side for additional water sounds, internal foil for visual flash...it's an amazing time! the ONLY lure today that got ANY action was the sb 105. also threw yo zuri, yamamoto, and something else, (just remembered. skimmer) but it was the sb 105 that elicited 3 major surface crashes. tomorrow i might try the yo zuri in clown, with a red sureset with red feathers. i plan on keeping 5 or 6 yo zuri's just cuz i like the colors, but i'm gonna try to unload a whole bunch of other stuff i'm not using. if i can get to powell this summer i might offer a ton of lures to get a ride one morning. i mean a TON! like, at least ten!

you know, i have a river to sea in white, with chrome on the side. i think. like, 3.5".
one odd thing about the sb 105 is the doohickees built into the body the split rings attach to. theyre 90 degrees to the side, which isnt an issue with regular trebles, but the sureset treble has one arm that extends out, and with the sb 105 that arm is extending to the side instead of inline with the body of the lure. i think that affects hookups, but not strikes. got home and added an additional split ring to the split rings already on the lure, and everything looks perfect now. will be interesting to see how the hookup percentage rolls out. does seem kinda loosy-goosy, tho...cant wait to try it out! gotta sneak onto a certain lake cuz all the others are closed in the austin area!

one thing is for sure: you gotta have confidence in your lure. and confidence comes thru positive experience, as well as continuing experimentation to confirm what youre seeing/feeling. i recently watched wayne throwing topwaters in a vid from 2017, and his group didnt appear to be throwing anything i throw. so, we all like what we like, and we like it cuz it works for us, for whatever reason/reasons. that's why bass pro has 8 billion aisles of lures, lol.
 
so, the extra split rings really give a loosy-goosy vibe to the sureset hooks. really dangling. but the action was actually improved, i believe. with the wind throwing up a lot of small wavelets, the yo zuri and yamamoto struggled to walk, but the sb 105 performed like a champ. when i got home i added a ring to the ring at the tie on. curious to see what that does tomorrow, when the weather will be perfect.

we caught a break today, with the rain holding off til 10, which allowed me to experiment with different hooks on different lures. just cant seem to top the sb 105. and i WILL hit powell this summer to see how this lure performs, Lord willing!
 
update: i would throw the sb 105 only from a boat. at $15-18 it's probably not a great idea to bank fish with it. yeah, i launched one, and the wind took it out of sight...bummer... but, and that's a big but, the azuma is extremely close to the sb 105, and is about half the price... i think what i may do is throw the sb 105 30ft in to parallel the shore, with the wind/breeze blowing onto the shore. that way i could save it, lol. man, did i search for that thing this morning! hoping. praying. but the azuma performed well enough! looks like with things opening up i'll be able to hit powell this summer!
 
i have a bit o' scott myself...it must be the irish part that makes me spend $18! that lure is worth every dime, tho. but the azuma is pretty darn close.
 
cmon. you can hit $59 to get free shipping...lol...i just wish they had clear in stock. ooooh...just got my TW order...2 sb105's and a 125...all clear..

My fishing desires over ran my Scottish blood. Found two of the sb-105 in clear in North Carolina. Should be here the day before I leave on my fishing trip. Yeehaw. 42 bucks with shipping and tax . First fish costs 42 bucks . second fish 21 bucks, 4th fish 10 bucks. I am excellent at rationalizing. Sooner or later I'll be down to a nickel a fish. Very affordable lure. lol
