Tom Pryor - AZ Marine Scam?

Weird situation going on with AZ Marine. I got a letter today saying that their onsite manager, Tom Pryor, has been fired because he was running a side hustle, siphoning off charges to his own account. My understanding is that Tom has been part of the Lake Powell community for a long time and even ran a large portion of Antelope Point at one point. Was anyone else working with Tom?

Do any of you have experience working with the legitimate owners of AZ Marine?

I do not know Tom Pryor, but I do know Jeff & Karen Stanley, and Blake Forrester. They run a tight ship! I cannot speak for anything that Tom may have done, but I will most definitely vouch for AZ Marine in general, they are solid. Known them for many years. They have a shop in Flagstaff, and are my go-to mechanics. A couple of years ago, maybe even 4, I'm not sure of the timeline, they opened up their second shop in Page.

Okay, I spoke with Karen Stanley, who is co-owner of AZ Marine. If ANYONE on here has had work done by AZ Marine in the past, please check your credit card statements, and check if it was charged by LAKE POWELL OUTDOORS. Tom was using this as a front, behind their back. That's about all I can say about it.
AZ Marine is 100% a legitimate business, and plans on staying in operation in Page. Dispelling any rumors is top priority right now for them.

Wow! That's awful! I've worked with Tom on both of my boat purchases in 2022 and on service and warranty issues. I saw no funny business on any of my charges, but, of course, that doesn't mean it couldn't have happened. Too bad.

Hey Ed, can you check those charges and see if they're from Lake Powell Outdoors? If so....AZ Marine would love to speak with you! Thank you

So, we are owners on Making Memories, a multiuser boat slipped at Wahweap. We changed over to AZ Marine for mgt this season. My bill for turn service last month came across as from Lake Powell Outdoors. Sounds like a mess.

@doc please call Jeff Stanley at 480-250-6270 with that information. That is exactly what he needs!

This all seems pretty brazen. As expensive as houseboating can be, this could easily run into 6 or 7 figures, just for this partial season! Let's hope the business owners can recoup their losses.

Back in 2008, my boat was one of 5 that were swindled out of a combined $250,000 by a management company. It was a mess spread out over several states, and in the end there was no money recovered and no Criminal Prosecution. The case wasn't considered to be "large enough" to warrant the effort.

This is very disappointing as I have known and worked with everyone named so far on this thread. I went through my files on the Fish Hawk purchased from Jeff in 2020 and every invoice has been charged to AZ Marine, including all services provided at the Page location.

Based on my few interactions with Tom he seems like a very nice and knowledgeable guy, I hope the whole thing is a mix up somehow. It's hard enough to find help anymore for your boat repair needs in Page without distrust and fraudsters getting involved; qualified services from people with Park Service Authorizations to work on the lake are getting scarce.

Some of the old reliables, some of the guys who've been around awhile who have lots of experience seem to be retiring or not renewing with Park Service. Without enthusiastic young guys lining up to fix boats in Page what are we going to do in the future? I think Page High should have a big vocational training program for all things boat, if you live here and can fix boats you'd never have to look for work and you could charge a lot! I know, I've paid some of those bills

Both actually. It is a new investigation, and still unfolding. And both AZ Marine, and the consumers are the victims here, it sucks!

If the customers did get the services they paid for they were not swindled as much as a victim of fraud. As for AZ Marine they are out their fair share of whatever they were supposed to get from TP. It's really unfortunate that things like this happen.

I had experience with this a few years ago... I had a contract with a supplier and they were hacked and we received an email from their admin that changed the payment information for our electronic payments. Our AP department dutifully changed the information and the money was taken (likely by their IT guy who quit suddenly and relocated to Malaysia). Because we had not officially paid them, our contract remained unsettled. However, because the interception occurred on their end, their insurance was required to pay the contract out, but my AP personnel had to issue a statement as a victim since legally we had not fulfilled our contract obligation to pay the original supplier. We had to get involved with the local police department and file a statement with them so that the company's insurance company would pay out. It was a big mess.

I am guessing that all the owners that had payments diverted will have to do the same thing in order for AZ Marine to file an appropriate insurance claim.
