The Weather Channel - Lake Powell

Wondering if anyone familiar with the Weather Channel App can help with a question.

Because we spend most of our time between Wahweap and Rainbow Bridge, I generally use 3 locations on the Weather Channel app for trip planning...starting from the west I check Big Water, UT then Page, AZ and finally Lake Powell, UT. The forecast often varies widely between these 3 locations.

The location/areas of the first two are pretty obvious but I’m curious where (approximately) geographically the “Lake Powell, UT” weather station/observation originates from?

TIA, Rivergoer.

Interesting, thanks for the tip! I particularly like the map feature that shows weather station locations on a map.

According to WU, the weather station for Lake Powell, UT is located NE of Navajo Mtn in Rainbow City, UT.

Comparing WU Lake Powell, UT forecast to The Weather Channel Lake Powell, UT forecast, they mirror one another so it appears both are using the Rainbow City, UT weather data for ”Lake Powell, UT”.

Turns out Rainbow City elevation is about 2,000 higher than lake level, so when it comes to weather conditions using the “Lake Powell, UT” reference seems a bit misleading.

Think I’ll stick to Page, AZ (Page Airport) weather going forward.

P.S. The WU Page, AZ link here on WW home page is pretty handy too so thanks to the mods as well.

Plus one vote for Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com). I've used many of the weather apps over the years and have found it to be the best for LP.

RE your other question - I know on the SLC TV channels when they refer to Lake Powell temps daily the marker on their maps is always near Bullfrog, but I have no idea what station they actually get data from - probably the one you found near Navajo Mountain.

Three for Weather Underground! I fly a good deal in the flight levels and cover a lot of ground. Ten day out I start looking at destination and enroute locations for forecasts. Inside 3 day they are usually spot on! Chuck

Weather Channel is totally dedicated to the Church of Climate Change so I avoid it at all costs.
Sorry guys... just had to say it which means this thread will soon be closed due to blah, blah, blah.

Again, sorry,
Goblin
What's wrong with saying that?

I like Weather Underground as well because they don't just tell you the average/high wind speed for the day, but map out the speed and direction by the hour on the 10-day forecast. This helps me plan my days on the water, whether it's better to fish morning or afternoon, or stay in camp or at home. They have been very accurate the last two years we've used them. We primarily fish far North(Farley/White) and they used to have a station at Natural Bridges that was very accurate, but that station hasn't been available for a while. I print the 10day forecast the day before we leave for the lake as a reference while at the lake.
