UPDATE: We noticed the bite was excellent 7-10am, lulls, then picks back up around 3pm until we departed around 7pm (Friday). Saturday we left early due to wind.
As Wayne indicated the fishing is on fire. I don’t think you can drop a lure in without catching something.
we went back out Friday and Saturday and caught fish just about every time we dropped a line.
anywhere you’d expect fish, you’ll find them.
and oddly enough the Castle Rock cut is (At least for now), the closest hot fishing around LOL.
both mornings we trolled the cut and back several times with Berkeley Bad Shad 8.5,s and caught 8-10 smallmouth, a few more Walleye, and a striper. most were very healthy and small so they got released other than one 14 inch striper and a pretty good sized Smallie!
after starting the day with some fun fishing we felt like sight seeing so Friday we did Navajo Canyon and Saturday we headed way up lake at high speed to Reflection Canyon (up by San Juan), then explored nearly every canyon along the way back, a few which we’d never seen.
in one canyon just down from Forbidding (Balanced Rock?) we caught several very large very fat smallmouth but several of them appeared to have little white worms attached, so we let em all go... but man we’re they fun to catch!
the wind then picked up so we headed home.
on the way back, we stopped at Dangling Rope for gas and provisions. The pumps are open 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm, and the shop (snacks, drinks, gifts) is also open.
the only thing closed is the restaurant.
the ride back was gnarly, with wind gusts I’m guessing in the 30mph range and sustained wind of 15-20+ mph creating waves about a foot or more high through the entire channel back toward warm creek.
the dog didn’t like that ride, but we made it back without incident.
